This bespoke garden room project by Garden Spaces was carefully designed around the client’s vision for a professional, purpose-built music teaching environment. From the outset, the client had a clear brief: they wanted a room that looked smart, worked acoustically, and provided a comfortable and safe space for both students and waiting parents.
Garden Spaces were happy to take the time to get everything just right. Over several months, they worked closely with the client to refine the layout and specification until it fulfilled both the practical requirements and the aesthetic vision. The final design is a contemporary 5.5m x 3.1m building that blends discreetly into the garden while offering a tailored environment for music tuition.
Stylish Design with Subtle Detailing
Externally, the building has a contemporary look, finished in vertically fitted Western Red Cedar cladding which contrasts beautifully with the dark grey trims, doors, and windows. A subtle canopy detail runs along the front elevation, fitted with recessed LED downlights that highlight the same-depth composite decked step below — adding both form and function to the entrance.
While glazing was kept to a minimum for acoustic reasons, Garden Spaces achieved a considered balance to maintain natural light and a connection with the outdoors. Two tall windows have been spaced across the front elevation, alongside a similar style glazed entrance door into the waiting room. The consistent window proportions and spacing create a pleasing rhythm across the façade.
A Room Within a Room for Acoustics
To meet the brief for acoustic performance, Garden Spaces utilised their proven SIPs core and layered in additional acoustic enhancements — creating a ‘room within a room’ specification for superior sound isolation. The teaching room and waiting room are separated by a solid acoustic door, with both areas benefitting from soundproofing measures.
As part of the safeguarding considerations, the waiting room includes a double-skinned internal window with acoustic glazing. This allows parents to observe lessons while maintaining a quiet and focused teaching environment.
Fully Finished and Ready to Use
Inside, the finishes reflect the same level of attention to detail. The interior has been professionally plastered and decorated, with a custom electrical specification designed to support the room’s use as a teaching studio. Four double sockets, ceiling-mounted lighting, and a hardwired internet connection were all installed to suit the layout.
The building was constructed on a packer foundation system over an existing concrete base, and Garden Spaces handled all final connections — leaving the client with a ready-to-use, fully functional music teaching studio that met both performance and safeguarding requirements.
