A talented hairdressing couple collaborated with Swift Unlimited to design a sleek and functional salon in their garden. Their goal was to create a contemporary space that could accommodate two cutting stations while blending seamlessly into their garden.
As bespoke designers, the Swift Unlimited team began with detailed consultations to fully understand their clients' needs and workflow. These discussions laid the groundwork for designing a 5.3m x 3.25m garden room, optimising the available space.
A Practical and Stylish Design
The rectangular building includes a cloakroom with a w.c. in one corner, while plumbing extends into the main room for a back basin, essential for hair washing. Two cutting stations are neatly positioned on the rear wall, maintaining a sense of openness despite the functional additions.
To ensure year-round comfort, the salon is equipped with a Mitsubishi climate control system, allowing effortless temperature regulation.
Eye-Catching Exterior Finishes
For a modern aesthetic, the clients opted for ‘hit and miss’ cladding, also referred to as rainscreen or shadow gap cladding. This finish features small gaps between the timber boards, supported by a specialist membrane that protects the structure from moisture. It delivers a contemporary and striking appearance.
The exterior is clad in Siberian Larch timber, a durable and sustainable choice that weathers beautifully over time. With its low-maintenance qualities, Larch is an excellent alternative to Western Red Cedar, offering similar longevity and style.
Maximising Natural Light
Floor-to-ceiling glazing wraps around one corner of the salon, comprising a large set of sliding doors on the front wall and a fixed window on the side. Integrated blinds, neatly enclosed between the double-glazed panes, provide a sleek solution for controlling natural light.
