Garden Spaces worked closely with their client to create a bespoke garden room tailored to family entertainment. Designed as a multi-purpose space, the 5.5m x 4m building serves as a cinema and games room, offering a comfortable and inviting environment for watching films and spending quality time together. The collaborative design process ensured that the finished garden room met all of the items on the client’s wish list while seamlessly integrating into the surrounding garden.
The Client Had a Clear Vision
While the client had a clear vision for how the space would be used, they relied on Garden Spaces’ expertise to shape the design. A key requirement was for the building to blend harmoniously with the garden, while also being pest-proof due to the property’s proximity to a forest. The final design incorporates a sedum roof, which enhances the natural integration of the building, while a reinforced roof structure ensures it can fully support the weight of the green roof system.
The exterior is finished with high-quality timber cladding, chosen to complement the Anthracite doors, windows, and trims. A 3D model was created during the design phase, allowing the client to visualise the roof canopy, decked step, glazing placement, and overall aesthetic before installation began. The French doors, which open outwards, create a seamless transition between the insulated interior and the garden, while a large casement window (1200mm x 1050mm) allows for natural ventilation without compromising the room’s functionality as a cinema space.
Strong Foundations and Pest-Proofing Measures
Garden Spaces’ experienced team recommended a screw pile foundation system, which creates a suspended floor, minimising disruption to the garden while providing a stable base for the building. Understanding the client’s concerns regarding pest-proofing, Garden Spaces incorporated vermin mesh around the perimeter during installation. This protective measure is just one example of how Garden Spaces takes a collaborative approach, ensuring each building meets the client’s specific requirements and environmental considerations.
A Space Optimised for Entertainment
Inside, the garden room is finished to Garden Spaces’ high standards, featuring professionally plastered and decorated walls paired with engineered wood flooring. The spacious layout comfortably accommodates multiple seating arrangements, allowing the family to reconfigure the space as needed—whether for watching films on the large back wall or gathering for conversation and games.
A key aspect of the design was the bespoke electrical specification, ensuring the room was fully equipped for its purpose. Garden Spaces worked with the client to incorporate all necessary cabling, including HDMI, data, and speaker wires routed to five different locations, with brush plates for a clean, streamlined finish. The projector is discreetly positioned on the ceiling, with hidden cabling, and projects onto the wide rear wall—perfect for an immersive cinema experience.

Thanks to Garden Spaces’ expertise and client-focused approach, the finished cinema and games room is a versatile, comfortable, and well-integrated addition to the home and garden. By carefully balancing natural light with the practical needs of a cinema space, reinforcing the roof for a sedum system, and ensuring pest protection, Garden Spaces has delivered a high-performance garden room that meets the client’s expectations in every way.

We are very happy with the games room Garden Spaces built for us in late 2024. We first spoke to them in the Spring, when we had a vague idea of size and spec but not the details. Robert worked with us over a few months to help us narrow down the details and try out different designs, especially around the windows and doors, answering lots of questions and preparing six drafts of the design and quote. We took a while to find an third party contractor to prepare the site, during which time Robert was very patient and helpful, but once we were ready to go, the build was impressively fast; just 2.5 weeks for Sergio and his team to build a 4.5m x 5.5m room, with a green roof, and some complex last-minute wiring for a home cinema. The final build is lovely - it looks great, hit the spec, was delivered absolutely finished to a great standard, and has already changed the whole way we use our garden. We're also impressed with how cozy the small electric heater makes the space - a real treat given the build was finished just before Christmas! Would definitely recommend Garden Spaces to anyone - it was a professional and reassuring experience from beginning to end.”
