Pre-designed garden room ranges have grown in popularity over the last few years. They are often the quickest way to buy a well-specified outdoor room because the plans are already drawn up and finalised. This also makes pre-designed buildings one of the most cost-effective options for purchasing a garden room.
What is a Pre-Designed Garden Room?
Pre-designed garden rooms are well-specified buildings that often sit alongside a company’s more custom work. They are available in limited size options, with fewer personalisation choices to keep costs down and speed up installation times. This makes them an excellent option if you're looking for a high-quality garden room without the need for a lengthy design process.
Designers frequently incorporate the most popular features from their bespoke projects into these standard ranges, ensuring that even though the options for customisation are more limited, the result is a well-designed, functional space. These ranges are ideal for those who want to buy a garden room quickly and without a lot of fuss, while still benefiting from the expertise and experience of the designer.
Notable Pre-Designed Ranges
Here are some notable pre-designed garden room ranges to consider:
A Room in the Garden
A Room in the Garden offers a number of pre-designed options alongside their bespoke designs. Their range includes the Primo, one of the smallest garden offices on the market, and the Cargo, which is inspired by the proportions of a shipping container but built to a much higher specification.
Miniature Manors
Miniature Manors offers four contemporary-style pre-designed garden room ranges, all including popular features. These well-specified designs boast a plastered and decorated interior, much like their bespoke garden rooms. Here are examples of The Willow and The Hathaway designs:
Sanctum Garden Studios
Sanctum Garden Studios is leading name in pre-designed garden rooms, they offer two ranges. The Hampton is one of the best-priced small garden rooms available, while the QuadPod range—available in both Studio and Office styles—comes in several popular sizes. The QuadPod range also includes one of the smallest garden office options currently on the market. Below are photos of the Hampton Grey and QuadPod Studio options:
Different to Modular Garden Rooms
Pre-designed garden rooms differ from modular designs. With a modular garden room, you can choose the arrangement of solid wall panels, window panels, and doors and decide where to position them. In contrast, pre-designed garden rooms offer limited options for customising door and window configurations.
For pre-designed options, the glazing configuration is chosen by the designer based on common requests and cost-effective production methods. This doesn’t mean pre-designed rooms aren’t built in modules—it just means the designer has already decided where the windows and doors will be positioned.
Well-Specified Features
The pre-designed garden room ranges we've explored are all well-specified. They are fully insulated and double-glazed, making them suitable for year-round use. Popular cladding options are used for the exterior, offering a durable and low-maintenance lifespan.
The interior finishes vary between companies. Some offer a plastered and decorated finish, as seen in their bespoke projects, while others provide a more basic finish using MDF or plywood boards, which you can paint or leave bare to suit your tastes.
Minimal Personalisation Compared to Modular Designs
When considering pre-designed garden rooms, you’ll find fewer options to personalise the building compared to modular or bespoke options. However, this is usually unnecessary, as the designs include popular features as standard.
Common extra options include adding additional windows, exterior lighting, additional power sockets, or a heater. If greater flexibility is important to you, a modular or bespoke design may be a better fit.
A Quick Way to Build a Garden Room
Choosing a pre-designed garden room can significantly reduce the lead time from placing your order to installation. Typically, you might wait 8 to 12 weeks for a garden room to be installed. With a pre-designed option, your room could be ready to use within just a month of ordering.
Because the design plans are already in place, production can begin immediately. Some companies even keep stock of their pre-designed options, meaning installation can happen within a few weeks. Additionally, these designs are optimised for fast installation, with smaller rooms sometimes completed in a single day and larger projects finished within a week.
Many companies also pre-book slots for these more standardised projects, so you won’t need to wait long for installation.
A Cost-Effective Choice
Pre-designed garden rooms offer many benefits, including being one of the most affordable ways to purchase a garden room. By removing the costs associated with custom design and benefiting from economies of scale and quick installation times, pre-designed garden rooms are often more budget-friendly than their modular or bespoke counterparts.
