Warwick Buildings, a long-established name in timber garden buildings, recently completed two custom workshops for Galanos House, the Royal British Legion’s residential home in Southam, which supports ex-military personnel and their families. Renowned for their ability to tailor the size, layout, and features of their buildings to suit client needs, Warwick Buildings’ expertise spans from fully insulated garden rooms to garages and workshops.
While insulated garden rooms and annexes are typically our focus, we’ve also highlighted several bespoke workshop projects. These examples show that working with an experienced designer like Warwick Buildings allows you to combine thoughtful design with practical features, resulting in inspiring spaces for meaningful work.
Customised Workshops for Carpentry
The two workshops are customised options from Warwick Buildings’ garage range and have been tailored to meet the specific needs of the residents and staff at Galanos House. The workshops are designed to be functional, accessible, and comfortable spaces where residents can engage in carpentry projects—learning new skills, boosting their mental health, and fostering a sense of self-worth.
The Larger Workshop
The larger of the two buildings is a bright, airy space packed with thoughtful design details:
- Double Doors: These provide level access, making the workshop easily accessible for everyone, including those with mobility needs. The wide doors are also practical for moving timber and finished projects in and out of the space.
- Pitched Roofline: The vaulted ceiling inside enhances the sense of space, allowing for easy movement of long timber and creating a light, open workspace.
- Bench-Height Windows: Positioned to frame views of the surrounding gardens, these opening windows flood the space with natural light while offering ventilation.
- Skylights: Fitted into the roof, the skylights further boost natural light levels and ventilation, making the workshop a pleasant place to spend time.
The Smaller Workshop
The second workshop features a staggered footprint, creating two connected rooms tailored to different needs:
- Double Doors: Like the larger building, the wide double doors ensure level access and ease of movement for people and materials.
- Custom Window Placement: As with all Warwick Buildings projects, the windows have been positioned to frame views of the gardens, allowing natural light to enhance the workspace.
Supporting Ex-Military Residents Through Carpentry
These workshops have been designed as spaces where residents can work on carpentry projects, building practical skills and confidence. Carpentry is known for its therapeutic benefits, helping to focus the mind and foster creativity, and Warwick Buildings understands this deeply. As skilled carpenters themselves, the team generously donated a range of tools and a dust extractor system to help get the workshops up and running, a gesture that reflects their commitment to the project’s purpose.
