Crusoe Garden Rooms — A Long-Standing Legacy in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

Crusoe Garden Rooms are celebrating their long-standing relationship with Nottingham and Nottinghamshire — where the company began and where they have completed so many projects over the years that the team have genuinely lost count.
Based in Nottingham and building across mainland UK since 2012, they have now delivered hundreds of hand-crafted, bespoke garden rooms nationwide. A significant part of their work, however, continues to be in their home county. In fact, the team are currently on site building two garden rooms for a client in Nottinghamshire — a fitting reminder of their strong local roots.
Every Crusoe building is designed around the client’s exact requirements and hand-crafted on site by the same small team. Their signature specification includes Western Red Cedar, high-spec plastered interiors and a full turnkey service. Each project is shaped around both the garden and how the space will be used, whether for a single purpose or a combination that ensures everyone in the household gets what they need.
One Team, One Standard
Crusoe have deliberately remained a close-knit team. Trevor leads on project management, site surveys and carpentry, while Emma runs project coordination and accounts. Their son works on the tools alongside the other carpenters and plasterers. The same people travel to every job — there are no multiple build crews or subcontractors for the core structure — and they have worked with the same Nottingham-based electrician for over ten years.
That continuity shows in the quality of the finish and in the number of repeat commissions they receive. Combined with the family’s long experience in carpentry and project management, it’s a team that is thoroughly at home delivering bespoke garden rooms, whether that’s on a straightforward plot or a more challenging site, or for specialist uses such as soundproof music studios.
Designed Around How You’ll Use the Space
Because each Crusoe project is truly bespoke, the list of uses is extensive. Their buildings have become home gyms, home offices, therapy rooms, games rooms, craft and art studios, music rooms, sitting rooms and entertainment spaces — and often a clever combination of several.
Layout, glazing, electrics and interior finishes are tailored each time. Externally, details can include an EPDM roof covering, front canopy detailing with downlights, house-quality double-glazed doors and windows, and cladding chosen for its long, low-maintenance lifespan.
Inside, walls are plastered and painted for a room-in-the-house feel, with laminate flooring. Heating and a full electrical specification are standard, creating a space that is comfortable year-round and ready to use as soon as the team hand it over.
Where It All Started
Nottingham is where the Crusoe story began. Before the company officially existed, Trevor built a garden room at the family home — prompted by a spare set of sliding doors and the need for a space where he could play his drums.
That first build was the seed from which Crusoe Garden Rooms grew. While they now work across the UK, they continue to return to Nottinghamshire time and again. The two garden rooms currently under construction for a local client are just the latest chapter in that long-standing relationship with the area.
We’ve been featuring Crusoe Garden Rooms’ work since those early days and have published several articles showcasing the versatility of their buildings and the care that goes into each project.
