Choosing an apex roofline creates a very different type of garden room, both externally and internally. It adds to the aesthetic style while increasing the volume of space inside. This creates a distinctive atmosphere compared with a mono-pitched garden room or even a typical room in a house, giving a pitched roof garden room real wow factor.
This 7m x 4m A-Range by Green Retreats proves our point. It has been designed as a multi-purpose leisure space, combining a home office with a sitting room and a smart cloakroom. With an external ridge height of 3m, this pitched roof design falls within the 4m height limit set by Permitted Development, provided it is sited more than 2m from each boundary.
Striking Contemporary Style
As we can see in these photos, the A-Range is a striking contemporary design. The simple palette of materials enhances the modern lines: dark grey doors, windows and trims paired with a standing seam metal roof and Western Red Cedar fitted vertically. The natural tones of the Cedar provide a warm contrast to the darker elements, accentuating the bold roofline.
A Strong Inside–Outside Connection
This building has an excellent connection with the garden thanks to its glazing arrangement. Large sliding doors have been fitted on both the front wall and one gable end. On the front wall, top-hung opening windows sit either side of the sliding doors, while the gable end features triangular windows above the second set of doors. Together, these elements flood the interior with natural light while discreet blinds allow the family to manage light levels and privacy.
A Layout for Work and Relaxation
Internally, the footprint has been divided to create a main open-plan room and a useful cloakroom at the rear. The office area has been positioned towards the back, leaving the rest of the space as a relaxing sitting room, furnished with a large corner sofa that makes the most of the double-aspect glazing and garden views.
The cloakroom is a smart addition, fitted with a toilet and basin unit. Finished to the same high standard as the main room with plastered and decorated walls, it also benefits from an opening window to provide both natural light and ventilation.
A High-Quality Interior
The main room has been finished with plastered and decorated walls and a neat vaulted ceiling detail where the beams have been plastered in. Laminate flooring has been laid throughout. For year-round comfort, an air conditioning system has been installed, ensuring the owners can set their preferred temperature whatever the season.
Personalising Your A-Range
Like all Green Retreats buildings, the A-Range can be tailored to suit each customer. Options include alternative cladding finishes, different glazing configurations, enhanced electrical packages, and heating choices such as underfloor heating or air conditioning. Green Retreats’ showroom in Buckinghamshire displays the A-Range, allowing prospective buyers to explore the options in person. Their online configurator is also a handy way to experiment with layouts and finishes before speaking to the design team.
