While mono-pitched garden rooms are incredibly versatile, it's always exciting to explore designs with an apex roofline. The pitched roof adds character and enhances the overall feel of the building.
This contemporary garden office with an apex roof, designed by Ark Design Build, is self-contained with a toilet and small kitchenette. This not only futureproofs the space but also increases its versatility and usability.
6m x 4m Garden Office
Measuring 6 metres wide by 4 metres deep, this garden office provides a generous amount of space. The pitched roofline creates a vaulted ceiling, adding to the room's sense of openness.
The exposed roof beams bring a touch of character to the otherwise modern interior. Ark Design Build plastered and decorated the space, and combined with the wooden flooring, a light and contemporary atmosphere has been created.
At its highest point, the ridge reaches 3.8 metres. To construct a similar office under Permitted Development rules, it would need to be situated at least 2 metres from any boundary. Otherwise, planning permission would be required.
Lightweight Slate-Effect Roof Tiles
The office’s roof has been beautifully finished with lightweight slate-effect tiles called Tapco. These tiles are made from plastic but closely resemble natural slate in both colour and texture. A key benefit of Tapco tiles is their lightweight nature, making them easier to install. They also have a lifespan of over 40 years.
High-Spec Aluminium Doors and Windows
The grey tone of the roof has been matched with the finish of the doors and windows. Ark Design Build installed high-spec, powder-coated aluminium doors and windows.
A casement window has been placed on the end wall, while the front features a wide set of bi-fold doors. These doors open fully, leading onto a grey composite decked veranda, creating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Low Maintenance Thermowood Cladding
The exterior of the garden office has been clad in Thermowood, a durable, low-maintenance option. Thermowood is treated at high temperatures to make it resistant to rot and fungal decay.
When first installed, Thermowood has a warm honey-brown colour. However, if left untreated, it will naturally weather to a silver-grey hue due to UV exposure. This weathering does not impact the cladding's long-term durability.
Garden Office with Toilet and Kitchenette
Garden offices with toilets and kitchenettes are becoming increasingly popular, making the building entirely self-contained from the main house. Ark Design Build cleverly partitioned the WC into one corner, with the kitchenette on the opposite side, maximising space without compromising the main room’s functionality.
Ark Design Build also managed all the necessary groundworks, connecting the toilet and kitchenette to the mains services.
A Turnkey Project
This garden office was completed as a turnkey project by Ark Design Build. They handled every aspect of the build, from installing the ground screw foundations to connecting the electrics, internet, and plumbing for the toilet and kitchenette.
