Garden2Office have shared details of a garden room they designed for use as a home cinema. Measuring 5.3m x 3m, the building was constructed under Permitted Development rules, so Planning Permission was not required.
The customer wanted the building to serve two primary functions. The main purpose was to create a home cinema with ample space for comfortable seating. Additionally, the customer required extra storage space.
Garden2Office use a modular Swedish building system that is highly insulated, ensuring this garden cinema remains a comfortable space to use year-round.
Built Around a Tree
This project posed challenges due to the limited workspace and the need to build around an existing palm tree. To maintain the structural integrity of their building system, the Garden2Office team boxed the tree in using their highly insulated panels and finished the roof with durable EPDM roofing. As shown in the photos, this was a clever and effective solution.
A Personalised Specification
The customer selected several optional extras to personalise the building to his needs, including:
- Built-in internal storage room
- Front and side access
- Shelving built into the wall units
- Hidden HDMI conduit from ceiling-mounted projector to shelving unit
- Feature wallpaper on the back wall
- Remote-activated canopy lights, interior spotlights, and wall lights, all independently operated
- Multiple USB port sockets
- Bi-fold doors spanning the entire main room
