This spacious 9m x 4m bespoke garden room in Poole has been cleverly designed to serve as both a home gym and an office. The internal layout has been divided into three rooms – the main gym area, a smaller office, and a cloakroom – creating a versatile workspace and fitness retreat in one contemporary building.
Bespoke Layout Designed Around the Client’s Requirements
As bespoke garden room designers, Executive Garden Rooms work with each client to create a layout that perfectly suits their needs. Whether you’re looking for one large open space or a building divided into multiple rooms, their team can configure the internal layout to make the most of every square meter.
In this case, the owners wanted separate areas for work and exercise, and Executive Garden Rooms achieved this through thoughtful design.
Light-Filled Rooms with a Connection to the Garden
The arrangement of glazing gives each room a wonderfully light feel and an inviting connection with the garden. The gym area features a pair of outward-opening French doors with fixed side panels, allowing for excellent natural light and ventilation. A large picture window on the right-hand elevation enhances this further, creating a bright environment for workouts.
The home office has its own dedicated entrance via a single-glazed door, allowing it to be used independently from the gym. Each door and window has been fitted with blinds to control privacy and light levels, while the cloakroom features a high-level opening window for additional ventilation.
Externally, all doors and windows are finished in Anthracite Grey, while the interior faces are white uPVC, maintaining a fresh and modern look throughout.
Contemporary Exterior with Low-Maintenance Weatherboard Cladding
The exterior is finished with composite weatherboard cladding – an excellent choice for a low-maintenance garden room. This cladding has a ‘0’ fire rating and a durable painted look that won’t fade, offering both safety and long-term visual appeal.
A roof canopy extends beyond the front elevation, providing shelter over the entrances to the gym and office. Recessed downlights have been set into the canopy, creating a welcoming atmosphere after dark.
High-Quality Interior Finishes and Electrical Specification
Inside, the building has been finished to a high standard with plastered and decorated walls and ceiling, and a durable laminate floor – giving the rooms the look and feel of those in a well-specified new home.
Executive Garden Rooms tailor every electrical layout to the client’s needs, including power sockets, LED downlights, Cat6 data points, and external security lighting. Heating and a smoke detector have also been installed to ensure year-round comfort and safety. As part of their turnkey service, the team includes the final electrical connection to the main house supply.
Cloakroom Solution with Cassette Toilet System
Because a manhole at the rear of the house had been built over by a previous owner, a conventional mains-connected toilet wasn’t possible. Executive Garden Rooms proposed a practical alternative – a cassette toilet system.
This modern unit includes an integrated flush tank and ceramic bowl, offering convenience without the need for complex groundwork. The cloakroom also includes a hand sanitiser unit and a heated towel rail, providing all the essentials in a compact, hygienic space. Cassette toilets are easy to maintain and have proved a popular choice in other Executive Garden Rooms projects where mains access is limited.
Built to Last
The building sits on a reinforced concrete foundation, which prevents nesting opportunities for rodents or foxes and ensures long-term structural stability. As with all Executive Garden Rooms projects, the build was completed to the highest standards — and in just three weeks.
