In an ideal world, every garden would boast straight boundary lines, simplifying the placement of a rectangular garden room and ensuring no space goes unused behind the structure. Unfortunately, when it comes to the layout of housing developments, this ideal scenario is rarely achieved, leaving many with gardens where fences are set at unconventional angles.
Positioning a standard rectangular garden room in such gardens results in an awkward area of ground behind the building that's not only difficult to access but also could have expanded the new room's dimensions. It's precisely in these scenarios that bespoke garden room designers like Ark Design Build shine.
Unlike the constraints of standard-shaped buildings, bespoke garden room designers start each project on a blank canvas, allowing them to craft a structure that fully utilises the available space, even if it means designing a building with a unique shape that aligns with the garden's boundary lines.
A prime example of this tailored approach can be seen in a project in Tunbridge Wells, where the client's garden fences are positioned at varying angles. The objective was to create a home gym with an adjoining storage room that made the most of the space created by the unique boundary configuration.
Ark Design Build specialises in custom projects across Kent, East Sussex, Surrey, and South London, demonstrating their expertise in maximising space and functionality.
22sqm Garden Gym
The main room used as a home gym, maintains a conventional rectangular shape to accommodate 4m wide aluminium bi-fold doors on the front elevation. Additionally, a wide set of sliding doors has been installed on the left elevation, creating an impressive glazed corner. This combination of glazing gives the gym an exceptional indoor-outdoor ambience, particularly when the bi-fold doors are open.
The design features Anthracite Grey aluminium doors and window frames, paired with Thermowood cladding. Thermowood, a softwood timber treated at high temperatures, undergoes a transformation that enhances the durability of its fibres, ensuring a long, maintenance-free lifespan. Its honey-brown colour and attractive grain pattern make it a popular choice in garden room design.
Opting for a garden gym design taller than the usual 2.5m height, which aligns with Permitted Development rules, is common. In this instance, Ark Design Build went for a 2.8m structure, necessitating Planning Permission, a process their team can handle. The added height lends a more spacious feel to the room compared to its 2.5m counterparts.
Ark Design Build's commitment to quality is evident in their high-specification finishes, featuring plastered and decorated interior paired with quality wooden flooring.
The comprehensive electrical package offered by Ark Design Build, including standard hardwired data cabling, ensures a dependable internet connection, enabling gym owners to stream music or television, or participate in online classes with ease. Their turnkey service encompasses the final electrical connection between the garden gym and the main house, meaning you are working with one company throughout the build process.
Angled Storage Shed to Maximise Space
Adjacent to the gym, a 7sqm storage room with walls angled to match the boundary fences has been cleverly integrated into the overall design.
Access to the storage room is conveniently provided from within the gym via a sliding door, or externally through a half-glazed door.
