A Garden Room With Storage Built In by Eden Garden Rooms

A Garden Room With Storage Built In by Eden Garden Rooms

Published: 14 July 2026
Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of the real advantages of working with a bespoke garden room designer is that storage can go exactly where you want it. You're not choosing from a fixed range of plans or a set specification — you're deciding how the space works. This project by Eden Garden Rooms in St Albans is a great example of that, and it's a second build for the owner, who first had an Eden garden room back in 2016 and came back for another. That says something in itself.

The 8m x 2.5m garden room sits at the end of the garden

A Wide, Narrow Footprint

The building is 8m wide by 2.5m deep. That's a wide, shallow shape, and it's ideal for the end of a long garden like this one, where it can run along the boundary without pushing too far forward into the space.

What's clever is how the storage has been handled. We often see storage placed off to one side of a building, or tucked behind it. Here the owner has chosen to bring it inside instead — and rather than have one large room, they've put storage on each side, with the living space in the middle.

Storage That Frees the Front Wall

Splitting the storage across both ends is a smart design choice, because of what it does to the front of the room. With the two storage areas taking up the sides, the whole front wall of the main room can be given over to glazing — a full wall of glass, thanks to two sets of sliding aluminium doors. It also gives the elevation a neat symmetry, with the two clad sections framing the glazing in the middle. From inside, you get a plastered and decorated room with one uninterrupted wall of light looking out over the garden.

The doors open onto a generous hardwood deck, so the room works as a true indoor/outdoor living space. As the owner puts it, it's "the best place for a lazy afternoon nap ever, removed from the world and looking out onto the garden." And because the storage sits within the building with no external door, it's really quite secure — there's simply no way into it from outside.

Eden's design incorporates two sets of sliding doors in Anthracite Grey which looks good next to the Western Red Cedar

Western Red Cedar and the Finish

From the front, the two storage sections are clad in Western Red Cedar, which is a signature of Eden's work. It looks very smart against the anthracite grey door frames and fascias, and it weathers gently over time. A 300mm canopy with integrated LED lighting runs above the front elevation, which helps the building earn its keep after dark as well as during the day. Inside, the main room is fully plastered and decorated and electrically wired, ready to use from the day it's handed over.
