When this retired couple relocated to a new home in Derbyshire, they wanted to create a peaceful, practical garden room that could serve multiple purposes. Their vision? A warm, welcoming space for playing the piano, relaxing with views of the garden, and even hosting the occasional sleepover for their grandchildren. Cosy Garden Rooms brought that vision to life with a beautifully designed, insulated 4m x 3m garden room that balances simplicity with thoughtful detail.
A Complete Service from Start to Finish
Cosy Garden Rooms offer a full turnkey service, handling everything from the concrete foundation to the final electrical connection. In this case, the couple had the concrete patio base prepared ahead of time, and Cosy Garden Rooms worked to a budget of £18,000 to deliver a ready-to-use space that complements the couple’s downsized lifestyle.
Low Maintenance Outside and In
A key part of the brief was to keep maintenance low. Cosy Garden Rooms use durable Hardie® Plank composite cladding—known for its colour-fast, weather-resistant qualities—for a long-lasting exterior that doesn’t need regular painting or staining. In this project, the couple chose Heathered Moss cladding for three elevations, paired with a Grey finish at the rear. The soft green tones work beautifully with the established shrubs and Mediterranean-style planting in the garden, while the Anthracite Grey uPVC doors, windows, and trims add a smart contrast and echo contemporary finishes.

Designed Around the Garden and Natural Light
Glazing plays a big role in the building’s character. Cosy Garden Rooms worked with the couple to design a combination of corner patio sliding doors and a full-height picture window to the left, creating a glazed corner effect that frames the view into the garden. On the opposite side, a second glazed corner has been created using two opening windows positioned at desk height, making this part of the room ideal for reading, relaxing, or enjoying the garden from a different perspective.
Bright, Calm and Contemporary Inside
Internally, the space is bright and welcoming. White grooved wall panelling creates subtle texture, while the smooth ceiling—free from joining strips—adds to the room’s clean, uncluttered look. A dark chestnut laminate floor grounds the space with warmth and richness, and integrated lighting—including six dimmable spotlights, two canopy lights and a directional eyeball fitting—offers plenty of flexibility for day or night use.
It’s the ideal blank canvas, allowing the couple to personalise the space with their own furniture, piano, and family touches.
A Room That Slotted into the Garden
The garden room has slotted naturally into the gently sloping plot, surrounded by established planting. Its unobtrusive presence is a reflection of how minimally invasive Cosy Garden Rooms’ installation process is—preserving the integrity of the surrounding garden and ensuring the new space feels like it has always been there.
