This stylish garden gym by Hargreaves Garden Spaces showcases their Kensington Range, blending sleek rendered sections with warm Cedar cladding. Measuring 3m in height, it provides ample headroom, making it ideal for treadmill and cross-trainer workouts.
Planning Approval for a 3m-Tall Garden Room
To accommodate gym equipment such as a treadmill and cross trainer, the clients opted for a 3m-tall garden room design. This height exceeds the typical 2.5m height for garden rooms, offering an additional 500mm of ceiling space.
As the building is positioned within 2m of the garden boundaries, a planning application was required. Hargreaves Garden Spaces supported the clients through the process, providing necessary elevation drawings, floor plans, and specification details.
Planning permission was granted for a 4m-wide by 5m-deep by 3m-high structure.
Groundscrew Foundation
The garden gym rests on a groundscrew foundation. Before construction began, load tests were conducted to ensure the screws’ length and spacing were sufficient to support the building and gym equipment. Unlike some companies that use a one-size-fits-all approach, Hargreaves Garden Spaces ensures tailored foundations for each project.
White Render & Cedar Blend
Hargreaves Garden Spaces offers a variety of garden room styles, and this project showcases their Kensington Range. Its hallmark is the striking combination of white render and Canadian Western Red Cedar on the front elevation.
The clients matched the white render to their home’s existing rendered extension. Paired with the Cedar’s natural hues, the design is further accentuated by Anthracite grey door frames, creating a sharp, modern aesthetic.
British Cedar cladding, used on the other three elevations, complements the design with its paler tone and distinctive grain. While equally durable as its Canadian counterpart, British Cedar is more cost-effective, making it an excellent choice for less-visible sides of the building.
Smart Heating and Lighting
Inside, the gym has a smooth, plastered finish, akin to a room in a new build. Fully insulated for year-round comfort, it also features an electric heater with Bluetooth controls, enabling remote operation from the main house.
The lighting is similarly smart—owners can turn the lights on from the house, perfect for early morning or evening workouts.
For seamless connectivity, the gym is equipped with a hardwired internet connection, allowing the owners to stream classes, music, or shows without interruption.
As part of their turnkey service, Hargreaves Garden Spaces handled the final electrical connections, including cabling to link the garden room to the house and system testing.
