This high-end garden office by A Room in the Garden is an impressive, bespoke design, tailored to the site and the customer’s preferences. The building was commissioned by a family who wanted a multifunctional space at the end of their garden, serving as both a home office and a family room. The resulting 9.3m x 4.6m structure certainly creates a lasting impression.
These are the designs for the project, which the customers had pinned to their kitchen door throughout the build, watching as the drawings became a reality.
A Corner of Bi-Fold Doors
One of the appealing aspects of garden offices is the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The A Room in the Garden team enhanced this connection by incorporating a corner of bi-fold doors. When fully opened, the doors create an expansive opening, bringing the garden into the room.
Two sets of bi-fold doors, measuring 2.52m and 3.23m, have been positioned to form a corner. What makes this design unique is that the bi-folds have been installed without a supporting corner post.
By removing the corner post, when the doors are folded back, it creates an uninterrupted view and a wonderful indoor-outdoor flow.
Designed Around a Tree
Incorporating existing garden features can significantly enhance a garden office. In this case, the garden’s planting played a central role in the design.
The customers have a beautiful eucalyptus tree, which they wanted to preserve while utilising the surrounding space for their garden office. This is where working with a bespoke designer proves invaluable. The A Room in the Garden team designed a covered seating area around the tree, complete with a hole in the roof to allow the tree to grow through.
Not only was the tree preserved, but it was also transformed into a striking feature, with a lovely seating area created around it.
Low Maintenance Exterior Finishes
The exterior of the building has been clad in two low-maintenance materials. Western Red Cedar, a popular choice, has been paired with Millboard, a high-spec composite board with the texture of wood but without the need for ongoing maintenance. Together, they create a stunning combination.
Lighting Enhances the Design at Night
Cleverly positioned exterior lighting ensures the building looks as impressive at night as it does during the day. The lighting highlights key architectural elements, adding to the building’s appeal in the evening.
The A Room in the Garden team shared that their customers are thrilled with the completed project, noting how closely the final build matches the initial designs.
