Timeless Garden Rooms are known for their pitched roof garden rooms, featuring classic detailing and traditional charm. However, when a London client requested a flat-roofed design that retained these timeless aesthetics, the team rose to the challenge with their bespoke design expertise.
A Space-Saving Solution with Traditional Appeal
The client’s garden was compact, and every inch of space needed to be utilised effectively. Concerned about neighbour relations, they opted against a pitched roof. At the same time, they didn’t favour the modern cedar cube style, preferring the elegance of a painted, traditional aesthetic.
Timeless Garden Rooms customised their design to meet these practical and stylistic requirements. The result? A garden room that blends seamlessly with the classic charm of the client’s home while accommodating the constraints of the plot.
Thoughtful Layout and Functionality
The building measures 5m wide by 3.7m deep—a generous footprint for such a compact space. The interior was divided to create:
- A self-contained home office, complete with a cloakroom.
- A dedicated storage area for toys, bikes, and other household essentials.
A Practical Approach to Height Regulations
Flat-roofed garden rooms are often built to 2.5m to comply with Permitted Development rules. However, both Timeless Garden Rooms and their client were unwilling to compromise on structural integrity to fit this restriction. Instead, they applied for Planning Permission to construct the garden room at 2.7m, allowing the building to sit within 2m of the garden boundaries.
This decision ensured a durable, well-insulated structure designed for year-round use and built to last for decades.
Timeless Details in a Modern Design
Even with a flat roof, this garden room showcases the traditional detailing Timeless Garden Rooms are known for. Features include:
- Scalloped fascia boards.
- Lead detailing around the windows.
- Farrow & Ball painted cladding.
Inside, the space exudes the feel of a room in a modern home. Farrow & Ball colours adorn the walls and ceiling, while underfloor heating beneath laminate flooring ensures comfort. The cloakroom is fully equipped with a toilet and wash basin, and the room is fully wired for all electrical needs.
