Cabin Master designed and built this 5m x 3m garden room in Leicester as a dual-purpose office and lounge. It shows how a well-specified garden room can work as a professional workspace during the day and a comfortable place to unwind afterwards.
The building was manufactured in Derbyshire and installed by Cabin Master’s in-house team, with the complete structure finished on site in two days.
Redwood Exterior Cladding
Externally, the garden room is clad in vertically fitted tongue-and-groove Redwood. The honey colouring and distinctive grain of the timber give the building a warm, natural look, while the vertical boards emphasise the height and the crisp lines of the design.
Anthracite grey door frames and trims provide a contemporary contrast against the timber. A wide set of centre-meeting sliding doors forms the entrance, framing views of the garden and that feeling of inside-outside living. On each side wall, the owners chose narrow, full-height windows with opening top sections, allowing easy ventilation without needing to open the doors and giving different framed views of the garden from within the room.
Roof Overhang and Downlighting
The roof extends beyond the front wall to form a narrow canopy detail. LED downlights are set into the underside of the canopy so they cast light down the front of the building after dark, highlighting the texture of the Redwood cladding and making movement in and out of the room easy in the evening.
One Space, Two Uses
Inside, the 5m x 3m footprint has been kept open-plan so the room can work as both a garden office and a lounge. The owners have furnished the space with a desk area and a comfortable leather sofa, showing how a single garden room can support different uses across the day.
With Cabin Master’s fully insulated construction and double-glazed doors and windows, this type of dual-purpose layout is designed for comfortable year-round use rather than being limited to the warmer months.
A Stylish, Panelled Interior Palette
Cabin Master finish their interiors with v-groove vertical wall panelling, and here the owners have used that finish to introduce a subtle feature wall. One wall is painted in the mid-green Steam Engine colour option, while the remaining walls are finished in a soft cream, creating a calm, stylish space.
White skirting boards pick out the base of the walls and frame the dark laminate flooring, which ties in with the leather sofa and other furnishings. LED downlights are recessed into the ceiling, and sockets are positioned around the room to suit different layouts and devices.
