This 5.4m x 3m example of The Garden Room by Little Green Rooms shows how the largest width in their range translates into a generous, contemporary garden office.
Finished in Burnt Cedar Millboard with Anthracite Grey aluminium sliding doors, the exterior has a confident, architectural feel. Inside, Farrow & Ball’s Mizzle — a soft green-grey — works particularly well alongside the natural cork wall, creating a calm and considered interior palette. A large Millboard deck extends from the front elevation into the surrounding planting, helping the building feel integrated within the garden.
Stylishly Detailed Wall/Roof Junction
For this Bishopston installation, the Millboard external cladding option was chosen in Burnt Cedar. Millboard has a tactile, real woodgrain texture, but as a composite board it is designed to retain its appearance without the maintenance associated with timber.
The wide boards are fitted vertically, giving the façade strong, clean lines. A noteworthy detail is how Little Green Rooms form the wall-to-roof intersection. Rather than finishing with a pronounced kerb detail, the boards run straight up to meet the sedum roof covering. The result is a soft, uninterrupted junction that visually connects the darker façade tones with the natural greens of the living roof.
The three-pane aluminium sliding doors are recessed within the front elevation, adding depth and subtly reinforcing the sense of transition from deck to interior. The Anthracite Grey frames contrast neatly against the Burnt Cedar cladding, keeping the material palette balanced.
In front of the building, a generous Millboard deck mirrors the cladding material. Laid so it flows into the planting, it softens the building and creates a natural spot for coffee and lunch breaks.
A Stylish Interior Palette
Internally, the walls are finished in Farrow & Ball’s Mizzle, a soft green-grey that responds well to natural light. The natural cork wall — part of the standard specification — introduces texture and warmth while also helping to dampen sound within the space.
Cork is a practical inclusion in a garden office setting, reducing echo and softening acoustics during calls or online meetings. It also creates visual contrast against the painted birch ply interior.
Handmade, thermally lined curtains have been added, allowing control over light and privacy.
Offering handmade curtains is a distinctive element of Little Green Rooms’ specification, and they add both style and ambience while remaining highly practical.
A Well-Specified Range
Little Green Rooms have developed The Garden Room as a single, well-defined product line designed for focused work and creative use. Four widths — each available in a choice of depths — create 16 fixed sizes, with the 5.4m width seen here being the largest.
The range is supplied with a high specification as standard. Ground screw foundations, heating, electrics, Farrow & Ball painted birch ply walls, engineered oak flooring and the cork feature wall are all included, so once connected to the mains the building is ready to use.
Insulation throughout the structure, aluminium double glazing and the green sedum roof combine to create a comfortable year-round workspace. From here, it is entirely possible to work, meet and connect with colleagues anywhere in the world — all from the tranquillity of the garden.
