Working from home, coupled with the exciting arrival of a new baby, led a Hargreaves Garden Spaces client to seek a practical solution for creating additional space. The goal? Free up a bedroom by building a home office.
Initially, the family considered a traditional house extension. However, complications with the ground level and the location of mains drains meant they were quoted £18,000 just to relocate the drain—before any construction work had even begun!
Reassessing their options, they opted for a bespoke garden office. The team at Hargreaves Garden Spaces designed a solution that fits perfectly in the available space beside the house.
Bespoke Garden Office Design
The garden office measures 3.5m deep by 2.5m wide, making efficient use of the available area. Positioned snugly against two existing walls, the design maximises space while ensuring practicality.
To reduce maintenance, the rear and right-hand walls—both inaccessible for upkeep—are clad in durable composite wood. This material is rot-resistant and doesn’t require painting, making it an excellent choice for hard-to-reach locations.
For a striking contrast, the front and left-hand walls are clad in British Western Red Cedar, a favourite material also featured in other Hargreaves Garden Spaces projects.
Modern, Low-Maintenance Interior
Inside, the walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated, creating a contemporary, light-filled workspace. Natural oak laminate flooring adds warmth and elegance.
Anthracite uPVC French doors in the front wall and a small opening window on the left wall provide natural light and ventilation. The uPVC material is low-maintenance and complements the modern aesthetic.
Complete Electrical Installation
Hargreaves Garden Spaces connected the office’s electrical system directly to the main supply in the house, handling all aspects of the installation. This turnkey approach avoids the need for clients to hire additional electricians.
The electrical package includes data cabling, ensuring a strong and reliable internet connection—essential for remote working. Exterior lighting enhances the office’s usability, with downlights in the door canopy and two up/down lights fitted with a motion sensor.
Custom Steps for Easy Access
To complete the project, the team built a bespoke set of steps leading up to the office. This attention to detail reflects the comprehensive service provided by Hargreaves Garden Spaces, setting them apart from other companies.
