This is a follow up to an article we wrote a few months ago. Building With Frames were commissioned to design and build five camping pods for an outdoor pursuits centre in Somerset. Outposts offer teambuilding and outdoor adventure courses and wanted to create accommodation for participants.
The dormitories are now complete, and it is great to see how they turned out! In our first article, we got to see the components of the core structure now they have their exterior finishes, a simple palette of corrugated steel and Thermowood.
A central curved roof section connects the dorms. This building houses the bathroom and has created a covered porch with access into each dorm.
We love how they have finished the interior with the beauty of the planed timbers, fixed horizontally shining. The bathrooms are also striking in their simplicity with the copper pipework on show and the sinks made from cattle water troughs.
It's nice to follow up on this project, and see how the simple, yet highly insulated dormitory buildings have ended up.
