There are some great designers and craftsmen in the garden room industry, and it’s exciting when they are recognised for their talents. The Swift Organisation, whose garden rooms we regularly feature on this guide, have been nominated for a Building Excellence award – by the Building Control Officer for Cheshire East Council – you don’t get higher praise than that!
As well as purveyors of bespoke garden rooms, Swift also take on larger commissions, using the same building systems they use for garden rooms, they have created this wonderful nursery, which can only be an inspiring place for children to spend their days.
Martin Lawson of The Swift Organisation offers some background:
The project was the supply and installation of a detached, two storey children’s day nursery (Footprints) in Bollington, Macclesfield, Cheshire.
It was a huge challenge because we were under great pressure to complete the build in a matter of weeks. We started installation on a pre-prepared concrete slab at the start of November 2011.
- 300 square meter building, the walls and roof built entirely from SIPs panels plus integrated custom made steel work, glu-lam beams and internal stud-partitioning.
- cedar cladding to all external walls and Marley Rivendale tiled roof
- Grey finish joinery in PVCu
- Completed to “turn-key” stage including full sound insulation (with glazed walls overlooking atrium), plastering, decorating, custom made staircase, oak internal doors, commercial kitchen, 4 refreshment stations, children’s, staff and disabled toilet facilities, air-sourced heat pump climate control, ….. the whole nine yards!

The job was under constant pressure from dreadful weather that we had last winter, plus the Xmas holidays. Water had to be brought in for the plastering in containers… after de-frosting the pipes in the neighbouring school, the mains power wasn’t connected until the very last week because of admin delays, and we had two solid weeks when the tiles were “stuck” to the laths on the roof with three inches of snow and ice!
In the end, and even including the above, the doors were open for business on 29th January…. a warm, fully equipped, building that is now running at capacity. … and the building control inspectors loved it!
So, whether your project is a £20,000 garden room or £250,000 commercial building, Swift can handle the project and the weather to create a stunning, high quality building. For more information visit the swiftorg.co.uk website.
