In many cases, a garden studio needs to be a bespoke size to maximise the space available. Not all garden studio companies are able to manufacture a non-standard size building, so you need to talk to a company that offers a bespoke service. Having approached three different companies to submit designs for their project. An East London design agency commissioned Sanctum Garden Studios to create their new studio space.
Having recently moved to new premises the design agency wanted to create an additional meeting room with desk space for their practice. They turned to their small garden, with the vision of creating a quirky space that extends the teams workspace. They had a budget of £10k – £15k for the project.
The agency’s garden is small, just over 3 meters wide, and there is no direct access to the site. The garden studio needed to be designed so that it could be walked through the main building. Normally, Sanctum Garden Studios don’t conduct a site visit before work starts, but on this occasion, the team did visit prior to the project to check that the panels could be feasibly walked through the property.
To maximise the space available, it was decided that the studio would be built tight to the boundaries which surrounded the plot on three sides. To achieve this dark grey Rangewood cladding was used for the exterior walls. This is a low maintenance cladding that can be fitted without needing the 35cm access space typically needed to fit Cedar cladding. By choosing this finish, the customers have been able to create a 3m x 4.65m studio space.
The Rangewood cladding has been colour matched with the uPVC French doors that run across the front elevation, creating a streamlined look.
Sanctum’s clients wanted to fit astroturf in the garden area that connects the garden studio with the main property.
Inside the office, it has a laminate floor with underfloor heating. The walls and ceiling have been plastered and decorated, creating a light and airy studio space. The studio is fully wired with downlights in the ceiling and double power points throughout the room.
