Its been a while since we featured the range of fully insulated garden rooms by The Stable Company so we thought it would be a good idea to take another look, as you will see they offer a range of stylish designs built to a high specification.

We enjoy making premium timber buildings customers want to own. We believe in building structures that are designed to last. There are many other products on the market that cut corners to keep the price cheap. We are not one of those companies. Everything we do from the foundations to the final detail is of the highest quality, to the latest standards and built to last. Because we design and manufacture our buildings at our dedicated facility in York, we are able to offer a tailoring service for all of our buildings, ensuring that the customer receives exactly what they want. All our buildings come with a 10 year insurance backed guarantee.
Garden Room Specification
We avoid the need for you to prepare a concrete slab for your garden room with our specially designed pad foundation and levelling feet, situated around the perimeter of the building to support the timber floor cassette. The ground beneath where the garden room will stand is covered with a preventative weed membrane and topped with gravel.
The floor cassette is constructed from 72mm x 197mm Easi-Joists and 47mm x 197mm structurally graded timber. All our floor structures are certified for domestic floor loadings according to building regulations. With the timber floor raised slightly above the level of the ground, air is allowed to circulate under the building. Metal sheeting fixed to the underside of the floor prevents rodent attack. Insulation sits in the cavity of the floor joists over which a 22mm deck is laid in readiness for the finished flooring.
The timber frame walls are constructed from 38mm x 140mm CLS C16 graded timber. A breathable membrane and timber battens are fitted to the outside of the frame creating an air cavity onto which the exterior cladding is fixed. This allows moisture and condensation out of the building, leaving behind a dry environment inside. As with the floor, the timber frame cavity is also insulated. The minimum insulation specification is 150mm glass wool.
The Exterior Cladding
A steam heated and preservative free 19mm x 138mm tongue and groove Thermowood® is our choice of exterior cladding, providing superior, maintenance free performance over many years. Applied to the timber frame with hidden nails, the timber cladding is cleanly finished. Choose to have your cladding left natural, stained a shade of brown or painted one of many colours.
The Mono range of garden rooms uses a composite insulated metal roof sheet system, which offers highly efficient thermal properties. The roof sheets span the single pitch, with a 5-degree fall front to back. A beam supports the roof panels across the span, on to which track lights are fitted.
The Duo range of garden rooms is covered with Western red cedar shingles, giving a rich and warm colour and texture, and is maintenance free. The 25 degree pitched roof structure comprises 47mm x 147mm structurally graded trussed rafters at 400mm centres, covered with a breathable membrane and roof battens in readiness for the cedar. The rafter cavity has a minimum specification of 150mm glass wool insulation.
The Eco range of garden rooms features a living or green roof. The roof has a single pitch, with a 1.5-degree fall from front to back. Structural grade timber joists, 47mm x 192mm, are positioned at 400mm spacings. 18mm OSB Class 3 decking is laid, on to which an EPDM Firestone® rubber sheet is adhered. A covering of sedum succulent plants are placed on top, with a border of gravel. Stainless steel metal flashings are fitted around the perimeter of the roof. The rafter cavity is insulated with a minimum of 150mm glass wool insulation.
Complementing the tongue and groove cladding to create clean, crisp lines that frame the building, the fascia, barge and soffit boards are all made from Thermowood®. Brown half round guttering is provided on all ranges, and can be connected to a water butt, for rainwater harvesting.
Doors and windows
All garden room ranges are fitted as standard with uPVC brown or grey woodgrain effect doors and windows, kite marked and manufactured to British Standards that will satisfy the requirements for contents insurance cover. Low E double glazed, argon filled toughened glass is fitted to give a C energy rating.
As standard, each garden room comes with a pair of French double doors with a multipoint locking system, measuring 2.1m high x 1.8m wide, and a full length fixed windows, measuring 2.1m high x 0.9m wide. The positioning of these in the building are at the customers discretion.
Additional windows can be fitted should they be required. For example, adding a top hung tilting window measuring 0.9m x 0.9m to one of the gable walls is a popular choice. Tilting roof lights can also be fitted to The Duo should you want them.
Door and window furniture is polished chrome giving a stylish and contemporary look.
Should you prefer premium quality timber doors and windows in a range of stains and colours, we are able to offer this upgrade.
Bi-fold or folding sliding doors are also available in uPVC, timber or aluminium as an upgrade.
The Interior Surfaces
Inside your garden room we are able to offer you a wide choice of high-end finishes for both walls, ceiling and floor, enabling you to stamp your personality on the building and make it your own.
Walls and ceilings* are fully lined with Fermacell® high performance dry lining board, 10mm thick. Environmentally certified, Fermacell® is manufactured from recycled materials. Benefits include high fire, impact and moisture resistance, and also sound insulating. Load carrying capacity is high: 15kg from a single nail, and 40kg from a toggle bolt. (* Ceiling are lined with Fermacell® on The Duo & The Eco ranges.)
The dry lining is painted with two coats of Dulux® mat emulsion in any colour of the customers choosing.
The floor is fitted with a laminate, 10mm thick, in a choice of wood colours and textures, with the surface guaranteed to resist wear and tear for 25 years for domestic use. A matching coloured skirting board is fitted.
Our garden rooms come pre-wired and fully fitted with a comprehensive electrics package comprising power sockets, lighting and heating, and comply with Document P guidelines. Wiring is concealed out of view in the timber frame cavity.
As standard we fit four 13 amp flush double sockets in a brushed stainless steel finish. Heating is provided by a slim 2Kw wall mounted convector heater, in a brushed stainless steel finish, and includes timer and thermostat. Two tracks with four adjustable spot lights on each illuminate the inside of the garden room. An exterior light with PIR sensor is mounted to the front of the garden room.
A metal clad consumer unit controls and protects the power into the garden room. All that your electrician needs to do is run power down from your house, typically with an armoured cable buried under the garden, and we will connect.
Should you require a telephone socket or TV aerial socket or indeed prefer under floor heating for a more even source of warmth, we are able to offer these.
To complete your garden room, you may like to consider some finishing touches. For example, outside, add timber decking to the front and sides of your building. Inside, shield the sun, improve security and add to your privacy with venetian blinds, fitted to windows and doors.
For some of our larger buildings, you may wish to divide the space with internal walls and doors. Adding a WC or a shower room are possibilities, and we would work with your plumber to achieve the desired result.
Finally, an attached shed space, with separate entrance, is a useful addition to the side of your garden room, for storage and gardening equipment
How long do they take to build?
Our average lead times are about 6 weeks from receipt of signed drawings to arrival on site. Our average installation times are between one week and two weeks dependant upon specification.
