We have recently been introduced to the work of Pronghorn Structures who are based in Newcastle. Their garden rooms stand out because they are built using a steel framework rather than timber. The modular system that is used offers the flexibility of being able to take your garden room with you when you move.
Key features of Pronghorn Structures garden rooms:
- Steel box fame core structure
- Fully insulated
- Low maintenance composite wood cladding
- uPVC doors and windows
- Electrics - sockets, lights and heater
- Prefabricated off-site in 1m wide modules
- Moveable if you move house
Designed to be low maintenance
Garden rooms by Pronghorn Structures are designed to be low maintenance. Three longlasting materials have been chosen for the exterior of the buildings. The walls are clad in Hyperion Composite Cladding, which is available in a range of colourways. Composite cladding, such as this, is not vulnerable to rot or insect attack and the colour does not fade - so no painting, ever!
The cladding is mixed with uPVC doors and windows, which require nothing more than a soapy wash now and then to stay looking good. You can choose the uPVC colour used, with options from the on-trend Anthracite Grey to wood effect finishes. There is a wide choice of door and window styles to personalise your design.
The roof covering used is an EPDM membrane. EPDM is fitted in one section to prevent the risk of leaks and has a long maintenance-free lifespan.
Four contemporary garden room styles
Pronghorn Structures have created four styles of contemporary garden room to choose from. The Atrox has particularly taken our eye, as it is a true inside-outside building. The Atrox would be ideal if you wanted to incorporate a hot tub into your garden room design or maybe create a covered outdoor dining room.

With each of the four ranges, you get to choose the size, style of doors and windows and their position, and the colour of the composite cladding.
Delivered in 1 meter wide modules
Pronghorn Structures garden rooms are manufactured off-site for a quick and clean build process. The steel-framed modules complete with insulation, breathable membranes etc., are delivered to site in 1 meter wide panels. This means they can overcome access problems with relative ease. The prefabricated panels then go together quickly without creating dust and mess, which is typical of some timber-framed projects.
Typically, a Pronghorn Structures garden room is completed within 3 to 5 days on-site. The time depends on the size of the building you choose.
We haven't featured many garden rooms over the years that are constructed with an insulated steel frame; timber frames are much more common. Steel famed systems such as this offered by Pronghorn Structures, offer many benefits though, the most prominent being that the garden room can be dismantled and moved should you wish to take it with you when you move house. Easy of movement also means that the building has a potential resale value.

Pronghorn Structures have a showroom where you can see examples of their buildings before you buy and look at the material options to personalise your design. They are based at the Lintzford Garden Centre - NE39 1DG which is just 15 minutes from Newcastle and 10 minutes from the Intu Metrocentre.
