Many garden room companies can adapt their designs so they can be used as outdoor classrooms. One such company are Cre8a Pods who were commissioned to build this small modular classroom as a space to inspire outside learning.
Cre8a Pods were contacted by an architect who had designed the classroom and was looking for a company to make the design a reality. The money for the new building had been raised by parents and Tesco Tokens. They wanted to create a new classroom in their garden which would allow the children to interact and be inspired by their outside environment. The new classroom was completed during the holidays, with the teaching staff eager to start teaching in the new room as the new term began.
This is by no means a large classroom but showcases how an inspiring new learning space can be created in the smallest of spaces. Designed to slot in beside an existing building, the classroom sits on a footprint of 3.65m by 3.4m. Bi-fold doors have been fitted in the front wall, folding to one side to open up a whole section of wall. This allows the children to move between inside and outside space with ease. The window has been positioned at a custom height, lower than standard so that the children can see out of them.
The classroom will be low maintenance in the long term. Cre8a Pods offer a unique external cladding system which comes in many different finishes. In this case, a wood grain cladding board has been fitted with red cladding. We like how the red finish has been detailed around the window reveals. This is a nice touch and helps it tie in with the building alongside.
Cre8a Pods also offer a practical, low maintenance finish for the interior of the building. Teachers don’t need to worry about sticky hands marking the paintwork, as a damp cloth will quickly have the walls looking like new.
This modular classroom was completed in seven days on-site. This was slightly longer than normal, following the discovery of a wasp nest in the hedge alongside the site!
