We feature a lot of contemporary style living annexes, but we were excited when this log cabin annexe popped up in our inbox. Designed as extra living accommodation for the family, both the interior and exterior feature many traditional design features, creating a space with real charm.
The 8m wide by 3.9m deep cabin has been built as extra living accommodation for the family. The spacious room has been left open plan to offer a living space with kitchen area, a sofa bed and an office area. A private bathroom leads off this main space.
To build, the annexe required a planning application. The Garden Affairs team handled this application on their client’s behalf. Once the application was approved, the installation of the annexe was a quick process, completed within five days on-site.
Built using a substantial 70mm thick interlocking wood system, which features a clever joint profile which ensures a strong joint between each board. The floor and roof include a layer of insulation. The beauty of this type of construction is that the structure can be left exposed internally, creating that classic log cabin interior.
The cabin is flooded with natural light thanks to the three sets of French doors which run along the front of the building. Three Velux windows have been fitted into the roof, which in addition to the feature triangular window fitted in the gable end add to the natural light in the room. Buyers often underestimate how adding a roof window to the design enhances both the natural light and the character of the space.
The windows were painted in the clients choice of colour, in the factory, before delivery to site. Garden Affairs client painted the exterior walls in a soft green once the build was completed.
A lovely porch detail has been created around the central pair of doors. This adds even more character and creates a welcoming entrance.
