Harrison James recently designed and built this garden room which offers their clients both an inside and outside living space to enjoy their garden and the views of the South Downs.
The customer approached Harrison James to design a garden room to sit in an elevated position in their established garden. It was to replace an existing storage shed.
The clients brief was to design a room that could be used all year round. They wanted the design to enable them to fully appreciate the stunning views. It also still had to incorporate a storage shed so that garden furniture and tools could be accommodated.
As bespoke garden room designers this type of brief was right up Harrison James street.
They created a 3.1 meter x 3.2 meter garden room with a 1 meter x 2 meter secret store to the side. The whole building has been clad vertically in Western Red Cedar, including the door to the store so it blends into the wall. The cladding was coated with a UV oil prior to installation, this will help preserve its reddish brown colour. Without a UV protector the Cedar will weather to a silver grey colour in a couple of years.
The views from the room have been maximised thanks to a set of grey aluminium bi-fold doors and a floor to ceiling glazed panel on the side elevation creating a wrap around glazing effect.
The clients wanted to create a inside / outside space, so Harrison James incorporated a roof overhang on the front elevation which offers a degree of shelter when outside. This was coupled with a composite decking area – this is a low maintenance choice which doesn’t loose its colour or become slippery.
Internally the room is finished to a high specification. The walls and ceiling were fully plastered and painted white. A oak laminate floor was laid creating a light and airy room.
The building is fully wired electrically and features LED lights both internally and externally. The room will be snug in winter thanks to underfloor heating.
This garden room cost the client around £20,000 including VAT.
