If you are looking to establish a home-based Pilates studio, it might be an idea to look at the space in your garden as a place to create it. Many people looking to practice Pilates or teach it, are opting for a purpose-built studio in their garden. Choosing to create a studio in the garden, means you are away from the distractions of the house. You also have a connection with the garden and nature as you exercise. Some home pilates studios we have seen, have been designed so that in good weather the owners can exercise outside if they choose.

Home pilates studio with shower room
My Eco Space has recently completed this contemporary pilates studio in Brentwood. The 7-meter wide building has been designed to host pilates classes and also offer space for office work.
My Eco Spaces client had applied for an been granted planning permission before commissioning My Eco Space to build it. They needed planning approval because the building has an overall height of 2.8 meters and is sited within 2 meters of a boundary. The customer also obtained a letter of consent from their local Building Control department, that a certificate was not required as long as certain, non-combustible materials were used.
To meet this requirement, the elevations that run along the boundaries of the garden were clad in Cedral weatherboard. This is a cement based cladding that has a low fire rating. It is a popular finish on garden studios that are sited close to a boundary line. Cedral has other benefits too, it comes pre-coloured in a range of colours, meaning it needs little maintenance. In this case, the customer chose a grey colour. A fire retardant membrane covered with quartz chippings was used on the roof. Internally, fireproof plasterboard was fitted.
Cedar cladding was fixed vertically on the two visible elevations. A corner of glazing has been created by combing a four leaf set of bifold doors with tilt and turn full-length windows. The doors are windows are a grey powder coated aluminium finish.
Shower room pod incorporated in the studio
The pilates studio has a fully fitted shower room. My Eco Space has recently launched a range of shower room pods, which can be fitted in a garden studio at the time of building or as a retrofit option in the future. Interestingly, these shower pods can be retrofitted in garden studios built by other companies too. Learn more about retrofit shower pods.
Modern interior and air con
The interior of the pilates studio has been fully plastered and decorated. Mixed with the light coloured flooring, a modern interior has been created. My Eco Spaces customer chose to incorporate an air conditioning system into the building, so they will be able to set the perfect temperature for classes, all year round.
From groundworks to final landscaping
My Eco Space offers a full-service installation option. They will handle the whole project for you from initial site clearance right through to the final landscaping around the studio. For example, on this project, not only did they install the building, but they also laid a travertine patio and path connecting the studio with the house.
