We are continuing our series looking at the different garden room ranges offered by Green Retreats. Green Retreats are one of the largest manufacturers of garden room buildings in the UK, and they offer some of the most popular designs on the market. In our last article, we explored Green Retreats Inspiration range. Today, we are going to explore the slightly more traditional, Expression range.
Expression garden room
The Expression garden room is slightly more traditional in design that the Inspiration range. The key difference is the roofline. Where the Inspiration range has a contemporary cubed hidden roofline, the roof on the Expression range is more of a design feature.
The sloping roof extends beyond the front wall to create a canopy detail over the doors. The roof also extends beyond the side walls to create an attractive eaves detail.
The canopy feature can be a useful addition during the height of summer, as it can offer natural shading, breaking the passage of light into the room when the sun is at its highest, and strongest. The canopy detail, does not, however, stop light entering the room when the sun is lower in the sky and at its most valuable.
A three board deep step runs along the front of the Expression garden room. Combined with the roof canopy, it creates a welcoming entrance into the room.
Lots of options to personalise the Expression range
Green Retreats offer lots of options to personalise your Expression garden room. You can choose the external cladding finish, from options such as Scandinavian Redwood, or popular Western Red Cedar, or opt for a low maintenance composite cladding.
You can pick the style of doors used, choosing from French doors, sliding doors, bi-fold doors or slide and fold doors. There are several widths of door to choose from, so if a large expanse of glazing is what you fancy, this is easy to achieve.
You can add extra windows to frame views of your garden. You can pick tall floor to ceiling windows or narrow horizontal opening windows, which can be usefully positioned over a desk or sofa.
You can also specify the interior finish, as standard modern Melamine walls are fitted. They create a bright, easy to maintain interior. If you are looking to create a room that has the feel of those in a new build house, then the plastered and decorated finish is an optional upgrade.

What sizes does the Expression garden room come in?
The Expression garden room comes in a wide range of sizes, so there is bound to be a model that fits the bill for you. The smallest Expression option is 2.5m x 2.5m and the biggest 10m wide by 3 meters deep.
Green Retreats quote the internal sizes on their website, knowing that this is what many buyers are concerned with. If you are tight on space, ask the Green Retreats team what the external measurements are.
The Expression garden room is less than 2.5m tall; this makes it Permitted Development friendly. There is the option to specify a taller version, taking the overall height to 2.7m. You would need to site it at least 2m from any boundary to comply with the Permitted Development rules or apply for Planning Permission to build it. But, the taller version is worth considering, especially if you are thinking about using it as a garden gym, where the extra height is beneficial.
How much does an Expression garden room cost?
The final price of the Expression range depends on the optional extras you choose. The base price for each size is clearly listed on the Green Retreats website.
The 2.5m x 2.5m model starts at £14,245 while the largest 10m x 3m model starts at £26,745. Green Retreats offer finance options so you can spread the cost if you wish.
The prices include the foundation system, installation of the building and VAT. There is a delivery charge based on how far you are from Green Retreats HQ.
Is the Expression garden room designed for year-round use?
The Expression garden room is designed for comfortable year-round use. The multi-layer construction includes Rockwool insulation in the walls and a specialist Photon Wrap breathable membrane.
The doors and windows are double glazed with units that incorporate Argon gas and a Planitherm layer for optimal performance.
