As keen gardeners The Garden Room Guide team headed to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show today. We mixed a little business with pleasure though, and took a look at some of the garden buildings on display at the show.
Of those on display we were most impressed with Crown Pavilions and Crane Garden Rooms – one contemporary design and one traditional.
We were amused to hear two ladies beside us say “I’d just die for a garden room” well, there is no need to go that far, there is a garden room for every taste, budget and garden!
Here are our thoughts on what we saw:
Crown Pavilions
Crown Pavilions build luxury cedar garden buildings, and they had a fully insulated garden room on display. The building was set up as bar / entertainment room, and we have to say it oozed quality.
Crown Pavilions use cedar both inside and out on their rooms, but we loved how they had mixed this with another natural material – slate, to create a feature wall.
We had a good look at the finishing details of the building and have to say we were impressed. The cedar has been detailed beautifully with the lines matched as the wall meets the eaves of the roof. Nice little details like the chamfer on the trim that surrounds the door all add up.
Talking about the doors, which were bi-fold by the way. They had a substantial feel with quality stainless steel fittings.

Crane Garden Rooms
Crane Garden Rooms  building has a much more traditional feel. This year they had included a veranda on their show building – listening to people around us, this is one of the features they liked best!
We were impressed that the veranda was a good size – plenty of room for chairs, table and space to move around. In our opinion some garden room verandas are just too small to be useable, so this was good to see.
Inside the room had a lovely, traditional feel with painted walls and vaulted ceiling with the trusses exposed. We liked how they had fitted in some roof windows in-between the trusses. To our eye these could have been a bit bigger, but they are a nice feature.

In a way its a shame more garden room suppliers don’t go to Chelsea and showcase their work. We were inspired by some of the elements we saw in and around the show gardens, and think we may soon see these in garden room design. We will write more about these soon!
