My client has a stunning plot of land in the County of Herefordshire (just outside Ledbury) and already offer one self catering accommodation unit in a converted garage. This has proven so popular she has commissioned us to design and develop two units on her site. The spec was to create a unique space for her clients to be at one with nature, having a building that is empathetic to its surroundings with minimum affect on the land around it. My timber supplier has landed me a beauty….the trees surrounding the building are predominantly Birch trees, therefore we are going to use a mixture of Birch as the main fascia cladding and cedar shingles on the faces that cannot be seen. One unit will comprise of a sedum roof, this building is set into the hillside overlooking a stream and a pond. The other is set back with a different secluded aspect from the other unit. Both units will accommodate 4 adults, with a well equipped kitchen area and separate shower room a spacious dining area and large veranda to sit and admire the surroundings. “The trick for us now is working with the planning guys to change a temporary structure into a habited dwelling”. As standard for us, the buildings is fully insulated, floors, walls and roof to the highest standard, this build has a train line running near the site so we are being careful to ensure we have the right insulation to ensure it will reduce the noise where possible, hence why we are looking at Rockwool and SRS www.soundreduction.co.uk to eliminate outside noise. I am sure you will agree a stunning venture and something I am sure most of your readers could envisage in their gardens, both units fall within the 30sqm regulations. Imagine – an office and a gym! A playroom and a sun room! A chillout room and a library all under one roof. As we always say, “What will yours be?”
