This recent project by GRL – Garden Room Living is a good example of how garden room designers will work with you to design a building that works for your needs and the space you have available.
This garden room slots into a tight plot next to a house in Leighton Buzzard, so far nothing too unusual here. The thing is the area chosen for the new garden room has a mains water drain that the Water Board needed to maintain access to. After making arrangements with the Water Board that their access would be maintained and they could force entry if need be, Garden Room Living was commissioned to design a building that would maximise the plot and maintain access to the drain.
While Garden Room Living offers a number of standard garden room designs, but in this case, with a specific design brief, a bespoke design was called for. Garden Room Living offer a bespoke design service costing around £1,480 per square meter including VAT.
Garden Room Living designed a trap door in the floor of the garden room so that access to the water main could be maintained. Thought will have been given to maintaining the structural integrity of the floor and the insulation levels so that a ‘cold spot’ wasn’t created.
A garden room with a secret shed
The garden room is a substantial 4.5 meters wide by 3 meters deep and has been divided into two rooms to create the main living space with a secret storage shed alongside. The storage room has a door on the front wall which has been clad in the same timber as the walls, creating a secret door.
The main living room will have a nice connection with the garden thanks to the French doors and the floor to ceiling glazing. We like how the window has been positioned on the side elevation next to the wall of the house.
As you can see garden room designers are up for the task of designing around site challenging conditions. To learn more about this project give the Garden Room Living team a call on 07949 406 525 or take a look at their website to see more of their work.
