In an ideal world, all plots where a garden office is to be built would have the boundaries at right angles. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Step forward bespoke designers, who have a toolbox of techniques to overcome unusually shaped plots.
eDEN Garden Rooms implemented their design skills to overcome a tricky site in Reigate. Their customer wanted to create a home office that has a connection with the garden it sits within. The thing is that the boundary fences are not set at right angles, creating an awkwardly shaped site.
Looking at the office at the front you’d be unaware that this site was not square. The clever design has taken place at the side of the building, the right-hand side as viewed from the front. The roof overhang has been shaped to follow the line of the boundary fence. This has created a tapered, triangular eaves detail. The detailing balances the roof overhang perfectly with the other side of the building.
On-trend black doors and windows have been used
Black doors and windows have been used on this project. The aluminium roof fascia has been colour matched with the doors. Black doors and windows are the on-trend option in garden office design at the moment. Buyers are turning their backs on anthracite grey for this darker finish which creates a striking contrast with Cedar cladding.
A 3-leaf set of bi-fold doors has been fitted on the front wall. These doors will fold back to create a free-flowing inside-outside connection with the garden. This connection has been enhanced with the sizeable deck fitted in front of the office.
Another design feature that connects the office with the garden around it, is the corner window. This floor to ceiling window has a narrow profile frame creating a wrap-around view of the garden.
Planting is planned to enhance the connection between garden and office
eDEN’s customer plans to enhance the connection between the office and garden it sits within, with planting. They are going to mix black grasses with slate chippings, again mixing the black finishes with the natural colours of the timber.
