Garden Fortress was commissioned by a customer in Cheam, Surrey to create a contemporary garden office and showroom, to showcase the customers vintage and upscaled furniture designs. Garden Fortress offer a number of ranges as a starting point for any design, and the customer chose the Classic Garden Studio Range with a glazed corner as the basis for their building.
The Classic Garden Studio Range sits on a ground screw foundation system. An insulated floor frame incorporating treated joists connects the screw piles together. SIP’s panels are used to construct the walls, and an insulated roof panel system is used. A recessed corner of glazing is created with grey uPVC French doors and a fixed full height glazed panel. As we say, these doors have been recessed creating a covered entrance area.
Cedar cladding is used on the front and side elevations with featheredge boards used to clad the rear wall. This is becoming a popular solution for garden office buyers, to focus the expensive cladding materials like Cedar on the walls that are most visible, and to use something more cost effective on the hidden walls.
Inside, the Classic Garden Studio Range is fully plastered and decorated in matt white emulsion. Oak laminate flooring is fitted with skirting boards creating neat joints. Brushed steel electrical fittings are used throughout.
How the customer personalised the design
As we mentioned, Garden Fortress have created these ranges as the starting point of the design process. They then work with you to personalise the design. In this case, the customer chose to build a 4m wide by 5 meters deep building based on the Classic Garden Studio Range.
They chose to upgrade the glazed corner detail by opting for powder coated aluminium bi-fold doors, mixed with a full height fixed glass panel on the side wall. They also chose to install a secret door further back on the side wall. This allows for easy day to day access but is virtually invisible since it has been clad in Cedar to match that used on the walls. The customer also chose to fit recessed LED lighting in the canopy in the recess which will shine down in front of the doors like a curtain of light.
As standard, the Classic Garden Studio Range comes fitted with a slimline electric wall heater. The customer chose to upgrade this to underfloor heating which will leave the walls free to showcase their furniture.
As you can see from these images, a modern light and airy showroom has been created that will showcase the designer’s furniture to its full potential.
