When building a garden room that is going to be used as a home gym, the designer needs to give considerable thought to the additional loads that housing and using gym equipment will have on the structure.
A fine example of a garden gym where this extra design consideration has been shown, is this 7m x 3.6m design by SIPS Garden Rooms.
This home gym has been designed to house weights, gym equipment and a kick bag. To accommodate this equipment, additional and longer ground screw piles were used than might be used in a normal garden room. In the area where the kick bag hangs, additional structural components were designed in, so there is no fear that a heavy workout is going to affect the core structure.
As their company name suggests, SIPS Garden Rooms build their rooms with SIP’s panels. These panels create a highly insulated core envelope. It is also a quick way of building; this substantial project took just ten days.
The mono pitch garden room has a striking contemporary form. A large set of bi-fold doors can be pushed to one side to open the room up, creating a great connection with the garden.
Internally the gym has plastered and decorated walls and ceiling. The floor has rubber high impact floor covering. Apparently, this product is used in ice rinks. The room is fitted with dimmable LED lighting with 120-degree angles. You can set these LED’s to cast a natural light/ice white/warm white light.
The heating in the gym is electric oil filled radiators which can be controlled by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, allowing you to turn them on and off remotely.
The owners of this gym were recommended to SIP’s Garden Rooms by a friend who had had a garden room built; this is testament to SIPS Garden Rooms service.
