In an ideal world, every plot for a garden gym building would be flat and level, but a talented designer can overcome sloping, uneven ground and make a feature of it.
This garden gym project by MOSSpods is a great example of that process. MOSSpods customer had an area of sloping ground that was densely overgrown with shrubs and thicket. They knew though, that the site would command excellent views of the Brecon Beacons.
Galvanised steel stilts were installed to overcome the sloping site. Galvanised steel beams were then used to tie the stilts together, creating a level deck for the gym building.
The building itself is a 5.7m x 6.6m version of the Snowdon from the Park Range of MOSSpods. The design combines lots of floor to ceiling glazed panels with narrow windows fitted high in the rear wall. This combination of glazing must flood the building with natural light. So many opening windows will make it easy to ventilate the gym.
The dark grey joinery of the doors and windows looks sharp with the larch cladding. The larch cladding has been used to create a secret access door on the side wall.
A key feature of the design is the veranda that runs along the front of the building, designed to capture the best views of the Brecon Beacons. With the veranda being raised off the ground, a balustrade was required to prevent falls. We like how the MOSSpods team have used the galvanised steel for the balustrade and for the steps leading up to the veranda. MOSSpods are clever at using a simple palette of materials throughout the build.
Lawful development certificate
This large garden gym was built under the Permitted Development rules, which means that no planning application was required. A Certificate of Lawful Development was obtained for the project. This is a useful document that confirms that the project was lawfully built under Permitted Development rules and can be handy proof when you come to sell your house.
Built in four weeks
This sizeable project was completed in four weeks from site clearance to final connections. A similar project would cost £48,000 plus VAT.
