Over the years, we have had a fair few enquiries asking if garden rooms can be used for cake making business, people wonder if you can fit a kitchen in a garden room with oven, sink etc. for making cakes professionally and offer a space for consultations.
Our answer has always been yes, and that we have heard of such businesses, but until now, didn't have an example to point the enquiries too. We are, therefore, excited to be able to share this lovely example by Garden Affairs.
Bespoke wedding cakes made in a bespoke log cabin
Garden Affairs offer a range of different garden buildings. One of the ranges being high spec log cabins built with 70mm thick interlocking timbers.
Garden Affairs are able to customise the design and layout around their customer's specific needs. In this case, they were commissioned to design and build a 5.5m x 4.6m studio space for bespoke wedding cake makers 'Caked' in Shaftesbury.
A 70mm thick log cabin building is designed for comfortable year-round use. In addition to the thick wall timbers the floor and roof are insulated and the doors and windows double glazed.
Garden Affairs worked closely with their client on the design. A pitched roof log cabin design was chosen with an entrance porch area with a balustrade which creates a lovely welcome for customers coming to discuss their cake.
Specification details
The pitched roofline allowed Velux roof lights to be fitted. These ensure that the working areas are as naturally light as possible.
The roof itself is covered in residential quality black bitumen tiles. We know from experience that these tiles create a tiled roof lovely finish.
The timber doors and windows were painted in the Garden Affairs factory before delivery. The customer painted the walls of the cabin themselves. The soft blue they have used externally has a New England vibe which looks stunning next to the Cherry tree.
Inside we like how they have used colour to zone the space. White walls and furniture have been used in the consultation area, while a splash of pink defines the kitchen. We also like how they have left the ceiling its natural pine colour, which helps bounce the light around the room.
Talking of the kitchen, this has been fitted out with quality units, sink, cooker, etc., everything a bespoke baker needs.
This project proves that a high-spec cake design studio can undoubtedly be created in a garden room!
