eDEN Garden Rooms have recently completed a contemporary ballet studio in their clients garden. The 5.8m x 4.2m room has a 900mm covered veranda running along the front elevation, creating a welcoming entrance and a great connection between room and garden.
Primarily designed as space to practice ballet, the design needed to be versatile so that it could also be used as a home office and a summer guest room.
Shopping around a bespoke design worked out cheaper
eDEN’s customer did her research and spoke with several garden room companies about her project. Looking at more standardised modular designs, she found it difficult to achieve the floor to ceiling height she needed for her practice. The designs either had sloping roofs or the roof system they offered meant that recessed lighting was not an option.
Also, when comparing prices she found that the key design elements she wanted to include such as Cedar cladding, bi-fold doors, plastered interior and underfloor heating were all optional extras, and when added to the base price of the building, it added up!
They then approached eDEN Garden Rooms to see how bespoke design compared. After an initial consultation with the eDEN team where she was able to fully explain her vision and her likes and dislikes. Plans and quotes were drawn up for the project. The lady was surprised that elements that had been optional extras with other suppliers were standard elements included in the eDEN Garden Rooms price.
Designed to maximise the floor to ceiling height
As bespoke garden room designers, eDEN were able to design the room so that every millimetre of the floor to ceiling height was maximised for the ballet exercises. eDEN also fits recessed downlights in the ceiling as standard, again maximising the height. The ballet studio was built under the Permitted Development rules, so it has an overall height of 2.5m.
eDEN’s customer wanted to incorporate a set of bi-fold doors into the room. However, she didn’t want them to ‘hang’ at one end when folded back. The eDEN team created a screen with horizontal slatted Cedar – a clever design feature.

This project shows how a bespoke designer can tailor the design to their customer’s specific needs. It also proves that it is wise to shop around and compare your options when buying a garden room.
