Following our article yesterday about garden rooms making perfect home extensions, let’s take a look at a project undertaken by The Home Office Company.
The Home Office Company were approached by a customer whose husband is in a wheelchair and needed additional space with easy access from the house into the garden, they had considered a conservatory but didn’t want the volume of glass that a conservatory creates and were concerned about the problem of overheating in summer and being too cold in winter which can occur with a conservatory.
The customer wanted the long edge of the garden room against the gable end of the house rather than the more obvious way of having the garden room gable end on; this created a few potential problems with brickwork and downpipes.
The Home Office Company have adapted one of their standard modular designs to meet the customer’s requirements, the garden room has a solid insulated roof meaning the garden room will not be too warm in summer or too cold in winter. The Home Office Company’s modular design means that windows and solid wall panels can be placed wherever the customer wants, in this case floor to ceiling windows create unobstructed views of the garden for the gentleman of the house who is in a wheelchair. The building is finished in a white powder coating to match the white paintwork of the house and the UPVC windows. The positioning of the garden room length ways gives easy access from the house into the garden room and the outward opening double doors make getting out into the garden straightforward. The Home Office Company are one of the longest established garden room companies and they used their experience and knowledge of their product to overcome the problems with brickwork and guttering downpipes with ease.

The Home Office Company’s garden rooms offer a real alternative to a conservatory or other type of home extension, we can see that positioned gable end on this design of garden room would make a striking kitchen / diner extension, but the possible uses are endless.
On a different note it’s nice to see in these pictures that The Home Office Company team keep a tidy site whilst installing their buildings!
