Garden rooms have many potential uses and one trend we are seeing is a garden room to be built as an extra bedroom. Harrison James built this fine example for an ever growing family who needed additional sleeping space.
Constructed in a courtyard garden with easy access to the main house, the 5 meter x 2.5-meter building has a striking front elevation featuring a roof canopy with tapered wall supports. The doors and windows have been positioned to maximise the space. A high-level fan-light window has been positioned over the bed and a set of sliding doors has been positioned at one end of the room. This combination of glazing floods the room with natural light.
As with all Harrison James garden rooms, this garden bedroom is highly insulated, so will be a comfortable space all year round. The building features vertically fixed cedar cladding. The grey UPVC doors and window contrast well with the cedar cladding.
Internally the room feels no different to a bedroom in your house. The walls and ceiling have been plastered and decorated. The floor is an oak effect laminate.
The garden bedroom is fully wired electrically, including LED lights in the roof canopy which must cast a nice light down the front of the building.
This project cost around £18,500.
Not all garden rooms can be used as a bedroom, as they must comply with Building Regulations. If you’re thinking of creating an extra bedroom in the garden, talk to a specialist team like Harrison James.
