In the latest in our 5 Mins With… series we put our questions to Smart Garden Offices
What makes your company / garden rooms unique?
We’re a UK manufacturer who only specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of high-spec garden offices and rooms. We visit each customer to establish their actual requirements and then, in our own factory, we personalise each building to their own specification.
What feature of your garden rooms are you most proud of?
We’re very proud of our ISIS construction system which we’ve developed over the years. This is stronger, more attractive and considerably more versatile than a SIP system and allows us to offer a personalisation service to ensure every customer receives a garden room to match their requirements.
When designing your garden rooms, which is more important form or function?
Function is more important that form. Of course, we design all our buildings around typical British architecture. We avoid “fashion” architecture like the plague. Everything else is about longevity, minimal maintenance, user comfort and robust construction.
What scope do you have for incorporating the customers design ideas into your garden rooms?
We use our standard floor plans as a basis – and create a building to the customers own specification from there. We always take in to account the customers garden type, plot size, site orientation and the intended end use of the building when writing the specification. Therefore every building we produce is personalised
Many customers are concerned about planning permission, how can you help customers with this issue?
Smart buildings are designed around the UK planning regulations and therefore rarely require planning consent.
When planning permission is required for a Smart then we provide a full planning application service – free of charge
Not every site is level, what options do you have for building your garden rooms on uneven ground?
In our experience there is no substitute for a good solid concrete foundation or ring beam. It’s money well spent on building that is designed to last at least 25 years !
Our own in-house ground working team will complete the necessary ground works in just day – with the minimum of fuss or disruption
Some customers are concerned about the ongoing maintenance of a garden room, what annual maintenance do your garden rooms require?
Minimal maintenance is in-built with every Smart. A “freshen up” will be required in 10-12 years from installation.
What aftercare do you offer your customers?
A full no-quibble 5-year warranty and ongoing cover for all customers
Describe your company in three words!
Experienced, Dedicated and Friendly
