Will Garden Room Designers Be Inspired By Chelsea?

The Chelsea Flower Show is always an exciting time to see the latest in garden design, and having now seen a few of the show gardens I wonder what inspiration the garden room designers we feature on this site will take from Chelsea 2011 and incorporate into their garden room designs?

As a designer myself I am very taken by the twist on a living roof in the ‘A Monaco Garden’ by Sarah Eberle. Sarah has used lavender as the roof covering on the roof of her building rather than the traditional sedum and turf plantings we see on garden rooms, the intense colour of the lavender contrasts beautifully with the wood fascia of the structure and the height of the lavender gives the roof a 3D feel and means the planting is visible from ground level – many other living roofs are best viewed from above!

So will we start seeing lavender living roofs on garden rooms – I hope so!

You can find more information on ‘A Monaco Garden’ on both the RHS and BBC websites.

Congratulations to the team behind A Monaco Garden who won a converted gold medal at Chelsea
