One garden room supplier has thought outside the box, the name O-Pod gives you a clue, but the unique selling point of this range of insulated garden rooms is that they are round!
O-Pod is a subsidiary of Eco-Hab Homes Ltd who are specialists in designing and building energy efficient eco homes that not only have minimal environmental impact during construction but are energy efficient to run. Eco-Hab have used their extensive knowledge and skills to produce the O-Pod range of garden rooms and its sister range of conventionally rectangular Space-Pods.
All O-Pods are built to order but they offer four standard sizes with 3,4,5, and 6 meter diameters. The smallest 3m diameter has and internal floor area of 7m2 and an overall height of 2.5m and would be a comfortable garden office for two people, although an O-Pod could have any use from artist’s studio to a unique home gym.
O-Pod will install the concrete slab or pad foundations on pre-preapred firm, level ground. The O-Pod is built on a box steel and FSC timber framework which is packed with 170mm of recycled glass wool insulation. The O=Pod is wrapped in a breathable membrane which allows the building to breathe, preventing the inward movement of moisture but allowing moisture to escape from within the building. There are a number of external cladding options and each one will give the O-Pod a unique feel, western red cedar tongue & groove cladding will give the O-Pod a contemporary feel and will weather naturally to a silver grey colour, whilst cedar shingles will give the O-Pod a textured, rustic feel, both types of cladding will require little maintenance and have a life expectancy of 60 years. For an alternative look and a splash of colour O-Pod can clad your garden room in a 100% recycled plastic shingle, which increases the insulation value of the building and is very durable with a life expectancy of 100 years! The roof is a semi transparent dome.
In keeping with the round theme of the O-Pod, porthole windows are used, like regular garden room windows they are double glazed and toughened for safety, the porthole frames are made from glass reinforced polyester which is maintenance free and comes in a choice of colours to blend with cladding options. O-Pods are fitted with a solid single door as standard but there are options for glazed doors, French doors or bifold doors.
The inside of the O-Pod is finished like a conventional room with plasterboard and skim walls and there is a choice of flooring options from laminates to tiles.
O-Pods are electrically wired and can be heated with under floor heating or a wood/solid fuel stove.
Multi room O-pods can be created by linking pods together with a curved corridor – the only limit is your imagination!
If living in the round is not for you why not consider O-Pod’s Space-Pod range, these rectangular garden rooms feature a unique curved roof and a whole wall of floor to ceiling glazing which incorporates a pair of inward opening French doors . Space-Pods are built to the same high standards as the O-Pod but use FSC timber throughout.
All O-Pods are built to order so the final price depends on the specification chosen but a standard 3m O-Pod would cost in the region £5,800. O-Pod makes a nominal transportation fee for deliveries more than 70 miles from Manchester.
