Over the last few days we have been looking at garden rooms which can be used as extensions to your house, and we are delighted to introduce Garden Rooms UK to The Garden Room Guide.
As well as building standalone garden rooms which can be situated anywhere in your garden they have expertise in installing garden rooms attached to the house. In the example shown here a contemporary garden room has been added to the side of the house to create a large living room with floor to ceiling windows and doors which lead onto a terrace area.
The Garden Rooms UK website has an interesting photo gallery which documents this build and is well worth a look. The Signature Range build process starts with the drilling of holes for concrete pile foundations which then have pre stressed reinforced concrete beams tied to the piles with stainless steel straps, these form sturdy footings for the timber floor frame which incorporates thick rigid insulation.

The walls are a traditional timber frame construction with orientated strand board (OSB) sheathing on the outside to stop the frames from twisting, batt insulation is fitted between the studs inside and externally the garden room is swathed in a multi layer foil insulation and is then clad in cedar cladding fixed vertically which enhances the contemporary feel of the extension. Internally the walls and ceiling are lined with plasterboard and skimmed to give the feeling of a ‘proper’ room; the floor is finished in laminate. The garden room is fully wired with all cables hidden in the wall construction and the fittings flush with the wall.
The room connects to the garden via double outward opening doors which have large fully glazed sidelights. The room connects to the main house via a single internal door and you wouldn’t realise you were entering an extension. We particularly like the crisp intersection of the cladding with the brick wall of the house.
Garden Rooms UK install their standalone garden rooms throughout the UK but focus this type of extension to the North West of the country because they like to work with the customer closely to tailor the garden room extension to their need and handle any planning permission.
So, if you are looking for an alternative to a conservatory or brick extensions and you live in the North West of England get in touch with Garden Rooms UK via their website or on 0800 148 8063
