Many garden room buyers are looking for a building that can have more than one use. This garden room that we spotted on the Harrison James website is a fine example of a building designed to have more than one use.
Harrison James were commissioned to design a 7.5m x 3.5m building that could be used for two distinct uses, side by side. The customers wanted to create a comfortable sitting area and a home gym within the one room. They asked for the room to have good natural light and maximise the views of the established garden.
The design that Harrison James came up with incorporates a corner of floor to ceiling glazing made-up with a mix of doors and fixed glazed panels. This arrangement floods the gym end of the room with natural light and offers views of the garden as the owner’s workout. The sitting end of the room has a much more cosy feel with rectangular windows positioned high on the walls.
A 500mm overhang has been created along the front and left-hand elevations, this creates a nice design detail, a welcoming entrance and is practical too as it will offer some natural shading during the summer when the sun is at its strongest.
The exterior of the garden room has been cladded in Cedar, the natural colour differences in each board create a rich finish. Anthracite grey aluminium doors and windows create a sharp contrast with the Cedar cladding.
Internally the room has been plastered and decorated. The floor is finished in an oak effect laminate. The garden room is fully wired electrically with brushed steel fittings. LED downlights are fitted in the ceiling. Heating in the garden room is provided by two 500 watt electric convector heaters. These are discreet, slimline wall panels which offer instant heat and are economical to run.
This substantial garden room project cost around £42,500 including VAT and installation.
