A couple days ago we wrote about O-Pod’s experience in BBC TV’s Dragons Den, after a confident pitch the O-Pod team secured an offer of investment from Dragon Theo Paphitis, as we said in our article we were excited to see what the experienced Theo would bring to the garden room market, but alias we are not going to find out!
Since the filming of the show things have moved on for O-Pod and they have decided not to take up Theo’s offer of investment, as Gemma explains:
……….We were naturally delighted to have an offer from Theo Paphitis and we were thrilled at the prospect of having a Dragon on board; we met with Theos’ team at Rymans Headquarters after the filming but since then we have actually received alternative offers of investment and the business has really picked up! Naturally, even with the negotiation; we were dubious about giving twice the amount of equity away and we were really looking for a more hands-on investment package so we took advice from our accountants, reviewed our business model and ultimately; after a lot of deliberation, we made the tough decision not to proceed with his offer. We are still eternally grateful to Theo for negotiating with us and offering us the full amount, it was a fantastic experience and we are so glad that we had the opportunity to take part in Dragons’ Den.”
We are sure O-Pod will still do well without Theo’s investment but we wanted to be clear to our readers that O-Pod is not a Theo Paphitis backed business.
