Do your research…

Garden rooms are a significant investment and a large object that you are going to be using, and looking at daily so it’s a good idea if you do some research before you buy. You have made a good start by visiting The Garden Room Guide and we aim to give you information about garden room construction and styles but there are other sites that can help you make an informed decision too!

One of your first stops should be the Governments Planning Portal for information on where you can situate a garden room. Don’t be put off if you do need planning permission, most garden room suppliers will be able to guide you through the process painlessly.

Visit as many suppliers websites as you can, there are over sixty in the UK! Request brochures and compare the different styles of building and their specifications.

If you don’t find exactly what you are looking for, approach a company that specialises in bespoke design and ask them to supply a design for you, there are several companies in the UK including Blue Forest, Pod Space, Roomworks. Don’t think that it’s prohibitively expensive, it’s not, and a bespoke design tailored to your needs, needn’t cost much more than an off the peg design.

Visit the shows, many garden room suppliers exhibit their buildings at the major home and garden shows, such as Grand Designs and the Chelsea Flower Show. Visiting such shows offers a valuable opportunity to go in a garden room and talk to the manufactures before you buy. Most of the big shows have a website with lists of exhibitors, so you can see which garden room companies are exhibiting before you go.

No research into buying or using a garden room would be complete without visiting for the most up to date garden room news. Shedworking’s daily blog includes information on garden rooms from around the world, garden room uses and users and the must have accessories. Shedworking’s author Alex Johnson has a book coming out in June which promises to be a new bible for those want to work, rest or play in a garden room, pre order your copy now, I have!
