Decorated Shed has entered the garden building market with an innovative twist on the contemporary garden room. Whilst Decorated Shed have a selection of designs on their website, all garden rooms are built to order, so that the finished building meets the customer’s specific needs and tastes.
The high specification, modular timber frame system has been designed by a team with 40 years combined industry experience and can be used to create buildings from a small garden studio to stand alone holiday accommodation, complete with living space, bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen.
Each project is individually designed and begins with a site survey, carried out by a RICS surveyor, who will assess the site and discuss your options, a fee of £895 plus VAT is charged for this visit, but is refundable if you place an order. The site visit fee includes the preparation of detailed computer generated images of your proposed building, specifications and quotation.
The site survey will assess your sites foundation requirements and Decorated Shed are able to offer a range of foundation solutions, the most commonly used are augured pile foundations. Pile foundations comprise of a 150 -200mm hole augured to a depth of 900mm, a sleeve is then inserted into the hole and then filled with concrete. The number of piles used depends on building size and site conditions.
Decorated Shed take a multi layered approach to timber framing, incorporating structural timber, building membranes and insulation. The floor is built to a thickness of 180 -200mm and incorporates 150mm of eco friendly Warmcell insulation with a sturdy 22mm tongue & groove floor deck. Decorated Shed offer a range of finish floor coverings such as solid wood, cork or rubber, but the final choice is the customers.
The 150mm walls have been designed to combine rigidity, insular performance and breathability. Wall thicknesses can be reduced to 100mm by exchanging the insulation to high performance rigid insulation. Walls are finished externally with Western Red Cedar which is low maintenance due to a natural resistance to moisture and decay, Western Red Cedar starts out a reddish brown and will weather to a silver grey with time. Internally Decorated Shed rooms are finished like a conventional room and can be painted with natural pigment or solvent free paints.
The multi layer timber frame approach has also been applied to the roof design which is around 150mm thick, and can be finished in coverings such as zinc, lead, recycled rubber or with a living roof.
High specification doors and windows are used, all units are glazed with 24mm Low E glass which is toughened for safety, trickle vents ensure air circulation is maintained and doors and windows are fitted with insurance approved locks.
Decorated Shed offer a choice of heating options such as under floor heating, slim line panel heaters or a wood burning stove.
Garden rooms can typically be fully installed in just 4 days, and prices start at £13,995 plus VAT for a small unit.
