Chameleon Garden Rooms

Chameleon Garden Rooms are full of character and charm, the four standard designs range from contemporary garden studios, to cottage style garden rooms, to garden lodges with covered veranda areas, these charming buildings are called Chaucer, Wordsworth, Davenant & Tennyson and you can almost imagine their great works being written in buildings like these!

All Chameleon Garden Rooms are built with traditional timber frames made up of sturdy pressure treated timbers. The floor has 100mm x 50mm joists with 50mm aluminium foil backed rigid insulation between the joists, the joists are covered with a damp proof membrane and the floor deck is 18mm moisture resistant chipboard. The floor is then finished with carpet tiles which are available in 24 different finishes.

The walls of the garden rooms are constructed from 100mm x 50mm timbers again with 50mm of rigid insulation fitted between the studs, the wall frames sit on a damp proof course which prevents moisture from the ground rising up through the garden room. The exterior of the garden rooms is sheathed in a breather membrane and clad in tongue & groove shiplap boards, on the Chaucer, Wordsworth and Tennyson ranges this is painted in various shades of Sadolin Superdec whilst on the Davenant the cladding is low maintenance cedar. Internally the garden rooms have a vapour control membrane – this works in conjunction with the breather membrane to help the walls of the garden room to breathe, preventing moisture entering the building but allowing moisture from within the building to escape. The walls of the garden room are finished in 12.5mm wall boards with the joints taped and three coats of emulsion applied, the walls are finished with skirting boards to give the feeling of a ‘proper’ room.

The roof construction varies depending on the model of garden room chosen, the mono pitch Chaucer has sturdy 150mm x 50mm purlins with a roofing deck on top and then covered with a high performance modified bitumen polyester reinforced felt with a mineral finish to the upper surface, complete with facia & barge boards. The three pitched roof garden rooms feature pre manufactured structural trusses, and covered with a roofing membrane & felt shingles in a choice of 4 colours (Autumn Red, Moss Green, Bark Brown, Frost Grey), complete with facia boards & scrolled barge boards. All roof styles are insulated with aluminium foil faced rigid insulation and have 12.5mm ceilings which are jointed and emulsioned. Roofs are finished with guttering and downpipes for rainwater collection.

The four ranges have doors and windows in keeping with their design, from modern French doors with fixed lights on the Chaucer and Georgian style doors and windows on the Wordsworth. All windows and doors have 24mm double glazed units and chrome fixtures and fittings.

Build time takes approximately four weeks in the workshop and around a week on site.

Each range is available in three different sizes the smallest of which is 3 x 3m and the largest 8 x 3.6m, alongside a variety of different finishes to create your own individual garden room. Chameleon strive to offer you more than just a garden room shell, with everything from double glazing, decor and flooring included in the basic price. All garden rooms can be customised with various different joinery, electrical, and detail options available. Many additions are available on each range in order to create a top spec Garden Room.
