The latest interview in our 5 mins with… series is with Cotsmill Garden Offices
What makes your company / garden rooms unique?
Cotsmill Garden Offices offer customers the design they want, as bespoke as they like, but at an affordable price which is comparable or cheaper than off the shelf offerings from other providers. We also over specify our buildings for example by providing framework which is glued and screwed rather than nailed and hardwood door frames.
What feature of your garden rooms are you most proud of?
The quality of the workmanship, our customer service, and choice of attractive designs from contemporary flat roofed to traditional pitched roofed. Our hand made glue and screw approach.
When designing your garden rooms, which is more important form or function?
We prefer to offer customers functional rooms that work for them, resist the rigors of the elements and provide them at affordable prices which are also nicely designed, well made but still look attractive but without designer price tags attached.
What scope do you have for incorporating the customers design ideas into your garden rooms?
Our customers have complete freedom to request what they like. We can change the cladding, window and door materials (wood or uPVC), window and door locations to suit the aspect of the sun and garden views, provide double doors alongside single, paint the inside a particular colour if requested, provide carpet or laminate flooring and even provide to a particular size to fit a specific corner or space in their garden. If the room is being used as a gym rather than an office we can strengthen the floor accordingly and have just completed a building for a disabled user to ensure the floor is completely level against the door frame and everything is at the correct height.
Many customers are concerned about planning permission, how can you help customers with this issue?
Yes we cover all bases when it comes to planning permission. We provide impartial guidance, detailed plans of the building if necessary for planning purposes. We can even provide a complete planning application service if required although there is an additional charge for this.
Not every site is level, what options do you have for building your garden rooms on uneven ground?
We aim to be as flexible as possible. We have several foundation systems. We can provide a pad based system which is ideal for uneven ground if required although normally our buildings can sit on an adequate base of concrete or paving slabs.
Some customers are concerned about the ongoing maintenance of a garden room, what annual maintenance do your garden rooms require?
Very little or none. Depending on the chosen cladding either no or little maintenance is required. If the customer requires the building to be stained then maybe an occasional coat or two several years down the line. In the raw Scandinavian Redwood or Cedar which most customers opt for can be left to weather naturally with zero maintenance required. Our roofs are high quality and long lasting and require no maintenance.
What aftercare do you offer your customers?
We pride ourselves on the quality building coupled with unparalleled customer service, after all we realise we benefit from customer referrals so as much or as little as the customer requires. We offer a 5 year guarantee. Should an issue arise up to a year after installation such as a bent gutter we will fix it immediately otherwise we have yet to encounter a significant problem that requires rectifying. We can also provide an ongoing annual maintenance programme should this be requested which would include staining windows and doors annually, regular checks and ensuring gutters are cleared, etc.
